Did not like the software pre release, especially on my Htpc, just because of theway i use the Htpc personally.
Did not work very well for my main rig either

I thought using the win 7 theme was a weird thing to do.. Why pay for a new OS on two machines only to go back to win7? So I stuck with win 7 on both. I personally didn't see much benefit over win 7 in day to day use, i know there are a lot of under the hood improments but nothing major, also have worries about WMC

The only place I see me using it is If I get a surface tab in near future. There it will be very practical

The desktop is treated, at a high level of abstraction, like any other app by the primary interface. Which is "Metro".
Both the Metro UI and the regular desktop features are part of explorer.exe

Even at a high level of abstraction, the desktop is not running on top of the metro UI. It's running beside it.

When running regular non-metro programs, most of the don't even run on top of explorer. They just run on top of the Windows NT 6.x kernel. Explorer is basically a set of interface features, and a launcher.
You can close explorer and keep all other programs running, and even use those programs normally most of the time.

But Metro apps do run on top of the Metro interface. Not beside it. And that's something I don't like about it.

A pound for an app here and a pound for an app there.
This is not where Microsoft should be going, but they have. And thats why the reputation of MS in the last few weeks has taken a nose dive - my opinion. They are not Apple. They should remember that. what a joke.

So only MS are not allowed to charge for apps? Lets ignore the fact that Windows has had programs that you pay for since it was invented for a minute, and say Apple are now the only people who can charge for programs because its Apple....

People seem to lose the plot around a new Windows launch..

I guess it all depends if MS are now charging the same amount of money for a stripped down version of the OS, labelling it as the new version and selling apps as "bolt" add-on's when previousely they came free with the older version.

MS have always "sold" produce (like Windows, Office and more business orientated software like SQL etc etc), and there is no harm in that what so ever - and they should be able to continue doing this.

I dont believe Apple have ever sold their o/s as a seperate product - the only way to buy it is with a new device, be it tablet, laptop or desktop.

Both corporations have been allowed to do questionable things in the past(trademarking curvy icons, or certain finger gestures for instance) but they are coming from opposite sides of the same coin and are therefore not totally comparable.

Bahhhaaaahhhhhaaaaaaa

Ms rep and coolness have significantly increased since w8 according to all the researchers.
For example

.
What is missing?
It's also not the same price, its the cheapest OS MS have ever done.

The only thing missing is DVD playback due to licensing fees, but then you pay less for the Os and media centre upgrade is free till end of jan anyway.

I like Metro as a touchscreen interface, and I believe it has a strong future on smartphones, tablets, and PCs with a touchscreen as the primary input.

Sadly, on a mouse and keyboard machine, it's a load of turd.

I'm sure that at some point Microsoft will realise this and branch development into a version with the Start Menu and a version with Metro - until they do however, i'm good with Windows 7.

You're dreaming they will not go back. Doesn't matter what you think off it, I can't see how you could even think they would release such an update.
And it works great with keyboard and mouse.

I don't own any shares.

Think about it, why on earth would Ms go back on their new Ui?
The market has changed, where Ms used to make their money no longer exists. They know this, their shares and profit have been falling. Yet you think they will do a U-turn and go back to a model they know was failing.

I'm not aggressive.
I just don't see how you can think that, other than blinded by your dislike.

As I said regardless of your own opinion.why would they go back to the old UI. What's in it for them? Why would they do it?

Is not about my opinion, its predicting what MS would do.
Does anything point to a U-turn? Is there any incentives for a U-turn?
No and no.

Point proven. ;)

No and no.

Because why wouldn't you try to please everyone you can? More customers = more money?

Hos it point proben?
Hos it aggressive, explain why they would make a u-turn, show them hinting at a u-turn? Show something, other than it being a bad choice for Ms.

It's not more customers more money.
It's less revenue, so less money.

Using OS to makes money is coming to the end of its life. ms had to change and they did change.
The App Store is the future for much of MS wealth as is actually producing products. That's what they've done. Why would they cripple themselfs by keeping desktop even longer than they are allready going to support it for.

So again why would they U-Turn, have they hinted of a U-turn.
Windows is customizable, so if people really can't stand it, they can use software to get start back.

Just look how many people hated metro and now after a week or two have changed their mind. This shows you why Ms will not U-turn. If the option was their people wouldn't learn the new UI, once you learn the Ui which is frustrating to begin with, it is a massive improvement and is very powerful.

NO company can please/make everybody happy. it's impossible

These forums are becoming awfully hostile these days.. especially on the Mobile phone and Windows threads. Sad fact is - people care more about swiping their silly phones than sitting at home on a PC. And to rub our noses in it, Microsoft are trying to push swiping a monitor with Windows 8. How Wonderful!

Ah, I see. So it's about maximising profits through forcing the Microsoft App Store on people? That's good to know. :D

It's not like there would be an admission of fault. I just expect "based on customer feedback we're giving you the option of the Start Menu!" spun like crazy to make it look like they're doing us a favour.

If the option was their people wouldn't learn the new UI

And what does that say about Metro?

It says its a new UI and people don't like change. Nothing new there at all. It happens on every redesign.
Even happened with the start menu. There was huge backlash about it.
More recently same with the ribbon menu in office and now used in most of widows. But. Guess what start menu, ribbon. People use and like and get angry if its removed.

And off course itaboutprofit and market share, what company isn't.
It's the way the market has shifted and that's that, untill the market shifts again.

People in their masses never did go search and downlaod software, yet all these people suddenly are now.
Some of the biggest user rises in installing new apps in win8 is the over 55 segment. Shows you how easy it is compared to the old ways ;)

It's quite obvious from the initial price of windows 8 they have a plan to make more money out of it, that being app's, imagine all the laptops that sell this chrimbo with 8 on and they will be presents for young persons who will hound mum and dad for some money for apps, trouble is the store and app's on offer have along long way to go to be good enough to pay for.
