Hanns-G HW191D Thread (Now £107.95 @ OcUK)

Mine arrived today, and the picture quality is excellent even with VGA. It's much bigger than I thought, and I came from a 17" CRT. DVI cable should be here tomorrow hopefully. No dead pixels at all, but there is a litle bit of backlight bleeding on the sides, but you can only notice it when the screen is completely black. I can't see any blurring in games either, which I was very worried about coming from a CRT.

It's brilliant in all though, I'd recommend it to anybody, especially at this insane price. :D

i got the hanns g 19inch widescreen. its great, at only 126pounds inc vat its a bargain, and its a very good quality screen. There is no backlight bleed, no dead/stuck pixels. Viewing angle isnt great but is quite good and i havnt noticed any ghosting. most games now are widescreen and they look much better, same goes with films.

EDIT: forgot to add, when using dead pixel checker it is obvious that the lowe rhalf of the screen is lighter than the top, inthe sense that on red the bottom half was pinker the further down the screen you look

Can someone measure the actual vertical height of the screen in mm plz? Also anyone with a 19" normal aspect tft (any kind) can you do the same?

hanns-g is 26mm high

26mm, so just over an inch then ;)

The reason I'm asking is I currently have a iiyama 513 22" crt, which claims a 20" viewable screen. The vertical height of the maximum sized image on screen is about 310mm, so just over the height of a 19" 4:3 tft as said by jimbob, and I was looking for a 2nd screen with at least the same physical vertical height, widscreen or not, otherwise I'm trading width for height which I rather not do, cos I likes me height. As its a second screen for browsing and that I think I'll go for the hanns 19" 4:3 jobbie for starters and see what its like.

Just a quick question how noticable is the quality between the VGA connection and the DVI connection?
I tried both and couldn't really tell the difference initially, but i did notice some noise at the top and bottom that i think went away with dvi. My advice is to get a dvi cable unless you're really short of money. It just makes more sense rather than converting from digital to analogue and then back to digital.

I have back bleeding at top and bottom which can get quite annoying watching films! Wuld this come under the warrenty abd I get get a new pannel or not?

hhmm what adsactly is back bleeding? im pretty new to the tft scene so enlighten me......Im guessing the top and bottom is brighter than the center
As for warranty info, give them a call on 0871 855 24 25, least then you have a simple yes or no.

no deaduns

just got mine today no dead pixel and it is a great picture, even using vga. To Buba the actual height of the viewable screen is actually smaller than my old sangyo 17" 4:3 ratio screen so it is nowhere near the same screen height as your old monitor. for those people not happy with the lack of a DVI-D cable i have just ordered one at a well known auction site for £3.60 delivered and it has magnetic sheilding so i am sure it will be a better quality cable than one that would have been supplied with the screen( this probably would have put the price up anyway). all in all i am very pleased with this screen and highly recommend to one and all.

Yep. I have it on both of mine too but not to a great extent, not noticable unless you are viewing a completely black screen i.e looking for backlight bleed.

You can't send a cheap monitor back under warranty for being cheap.

It was designed to be cheap to produce and they obviously had to make some compromises such as a little backlight bleed and a few dead pixels on the odd one. Even some of the expensive dells have backlight bleed iirc.

My DVI cable arrived and the difference between this and VGA is very noticable. Everything looks a lot crisper, and when I use the VGA now it seems a bit blurry. If you haven't got one, get a DVI-D cable for this monitor, it makes a huge difference. Also a bit of the horizontal banding on text that I saw with using VGA has now completely gone.

And for some reason, I think the vertical viewing angles have actually increased using DVI. When I stood up, text on the monitor became very blurry with VGA. Now with the DVI cable it is still perfectly readable, only the colours are slightly dodgy.

Viewing angles on the whole are excellent. I can view it from any angle and text is still perfectly readable, and they are seriously almost as good as my old CRT.

Recieved this monitor this morning and could not be happier with it. No dead pixels even though I was half expecting some. Superb brightness and colours, so bright in fact I have had to lower it down to 50% in the settings.

Games look amazing and so do dvd's, if anyone is considering a purchase I'd get in before the anticipated price rise.

Simply can't fault it. To mirror the poster above, a DVI cable is reccomended. The difference while not massive is certainly worth an extra few quid.

with regard to the dvi cable, its DVI-D according to the O/C website, so will that not plug into my sapphire x800 gto2? as that has a DVI-I output
I think the two are compatable. Iirc dvi-d has the analogue pins so if you wanted to convert it to analogue at the other end of the cable you couldn't with a dvi-i cable. The graphics card only has the digital pins so you can't convert it to analogue at all. But i think both will work in digital.

Got my monitor today - couldn't complain for £120 odd! Got my mum to pick it up for me from OcUK central this afternoon :D

I've just come from a 17" CRT and the difference in size is huge. Colours are very bright and vivid too - I'll have to get a hold of a DVI cable. And a new graphics card, my 6600GT may not be up to scratch in higher resolutions. More money to OcUK it seems :p

edit/ I'm a nonce, I had a DVI cable in the box as well as the VGA one. It was just right down the bottom of the box. Pic is a fair bit sharper now.

I think it's the other way round, DVI-D = Digital only, DVI-I = Analogue + Digital
