Happiness is . . .

How did you get it so cheap?

Mine's costing loads.

Bought the mac pro 2nd hand in November, it was 6 weeks old and has HE warranty on it.
£1200 for octo core + 2gb ram and the guy asked if I wanted more ram, so I got another 8GB for £100!

Can't argue one bit! :D

you can get 8GB kits now for £210 online, didn't realise!

Awesome. Is that a 2x 1GB + 2x 4GB arrangement I assume?

I genuinely didn't know I could use the current 2GB stock with the new stuff.

Yeah

Good deal! I bought mine last August and paid £1,000 which I considered the deal of the century. I was saving to buy a new one on HE anyway so with the cash I saved, I bought 8Gb RAM (remember, £ to $ rate was excellent then), an 8800 and an AppleTV. Oh yes, and I picked up Applecare from eBay for £60, again down to the good exchange rate.

/edit - Here's my memory arrangement as per the link I posted above. I will at some point remove the pair of 1Gbs and fill that riser with 2Gb ;)

yeah I was going to get a bit more ram when the exchange rate was in the 1.90s but didn't bother! Wish I had now though! Could have gotten 8GB for about £150 new!

Also went the 8800GT route. Bought a 2nd hand PC card for about £50 and got i working myself :)

Gotta agree with feek...

63 images on the left screen, all over 12mb at some silly res (about 5000x3000) and not an ounce of slow down :)

Yeah but are they 16bit TIFFs? Anyone can open 63 5000 x 3000px Jpegs :p

If they were TIFF's they would be SLIGHTLY (read a lot) bigger than 12mb each :p

The point was I was batch processing all 63 and whilst happily running everything else and it just 'dealt' with it :)

*hugs MP* :D

huh? What's up with it?

The 4870 with some monitors make the IO pause.

Scrolling, moving the mouse, moving in iTunes, etc.

Makes anything precise impossible.

All its currently doing is being my file server, folding while im awake and generally looking pretty.

Its served no purpose for which I intended it for!

I still do ALL my photo work and uni work on my MBP

One stupid little bug and it ruins it :(

First mac thats actually had a issue from the start, or infact ever. MBP has been perfect although it was a 4/5 month old design by the time i got it.

Thats bad dude :( - Any ideas when a patch is due?

None.

I've asked for an upgrade to the 2.93 and a downgrade to the GT120, allowing me to upgrade at a later date.

Frankly, it costs them about £150 to swap me to the 2.93 from 2.66 and for what i've patiently waited for its not unreasonable!

All I want is a working machine

I know, hence the sticking out tongue :D Though how exactly were you batch processing them with them all open at once? I thought PS just did them one at a time.

Yes it does do them one at a time, it cycles them. But my point is whilst cycling through them one by one I can still do everything else, something my MacBook hasn't got the horse power to do.

So what have they said about the upgrade/downgrade? not gonna happen?
