hardc0re_tid's Nissan AlmeraT

lol you will not get 30bhp easily from a SR20DE... that'll need some decent cash spending. Anyone who says they have done it for nothing either have a poor butt dyno or a very optimistic local dyno :E

It is not a 170bhp motor, it has 140bhp. Arguing based on the engines potential if he modifies it is pointless.

Coming soon to a thread near you - Peugeot 106's are faster than Ferraris!*

*When you put a Chevvy LS1 in LOLOLOLOLOL

not true some engines have more tuning potential than others. fact.

different engines have different ways of making up power due to the flaws that stopped them from making that power to begin with. they say it starts with 140 but i question that very much, because its the same engine as in the primera, which already starts at just under 150. so either you swap to GT cams, or go for S3rs (+15-20) for a few hundred quid...SSAC header = 5bhp easily, add a cat back 2.25 another few unlocked, putting on an intake will boost the bhp a few more maybe 5. SO my maths goes 148bhp+5+5+3 = 161 and thats just some basic bolt ons. advance the ignition timing, abnother 3-5 bhp quite easily obtainable... so you could be at 165~ if you want cams theres you well over towards 180. if not you might find some more elsewhere (Under driven crank/water pulleys for instance)...

you seem to be of the Top gear review that modding fails because they once tried to soup up a van and spent gees on brakes etc and concluded it was useless..it isnt really they did it in an extreem fashion and spent their money quite poorly imo.

but the point is the above mods and gains are realistic, no one mentioned an LS1.

if you are modding cars why would you ignore the modding potential of the engine in choosing said car/motor?

with a turbo (requires drilling oil line in the engine and an turbo manifold) you would quite easily see 200+bhp.

I hate Almera's. I've got respect for the GTI as it's a capable hot hatch, even with the frumpy looks. Unfortunately had a 1.6 of some description as a hire car when I was working away for a few months. It drove OK, however I hate the styling and the interior was utterly hateful. The only good point was it's resistance to abuse, and believe me I tried to break it.

For a rat look, matt black Nissan then I'd have thought to do it properly you'd have to start with a shagged out rusty Sunny?

i got the gti with sr20 for £100 lol

in total ive spend about 3k on the car, including 800 for it

For that amount of money you could have got a Almera VZR instead, a 180bhp SR20VE dropped in or a pulsar swap. My Primera was RR at 189bhp but I have hit a brick wall. Got JWT S3 cams, Magnaflow exhaust with custom mid section, SS exhaust manifold with upgraded gaskets, CAI mounted into wing with apexi filter, enlarged inlet manifold, lightweight pulleys, Nismo AFPR and all tuned on RR. To get to the magic 200 I am looking at either a port/polish, stroker, turbo or drop in a Neo VVL and start from scratch. Once my NCB comes around in November I think I am going to shop it in and get a Accord Type-R as it would be cheaper! Even still I spent less then 3k on modifications. That includes a £500 setup of KYB AGX shocks/Tein springs and Momo GT2 alloys with Pirelli P-Zero's.

Love the paintwork but the bonnet looks absurd and makes you think the rest of the cars equally crap.

Its a lot of effort to put into something that ultimately looks like its owned by a tit.

Sorry :(

As you gave permission...

Seriously, what ARE you thinking? It's like a mobile advertisement for the benefits of the Scrappage scheme. It looks absolutely ridiculous, 'rat look' suits old VW's (infact thats a whole new thread, its arguable whether it suits anything' but on a Nissan its 'crap look'. The looks a complete mess, there are many things you can do to improve the way an Almera looks but this is not one of them. What a waste of effort.

Then... the mechanicals.

I really, really hoped 'AmeraT' was some sort of mad turbo conversion. I held off posting until I found out for sure. But to get to the trouble of an engine transplant only to stick a wheezy 2 litre in developing all of 140bhp? Whats the point? I love the way you say its really fast and keeps up with an Almera GTi as if thats some sort of acheivement, I drove a diesel 4 pot repmobile on Sunday that would keep up with an Almera GTI!

Just... wow. I'm really sorry, I like to try and find something positive about even the most hated of cars but the only positive thing about this is the fact that the money you've spent on it has at least gone towards keeping people in this country working at the suppliers you've used in a job.

You were so close to having it look half decent but... a matt black rat look Almera with a broken bonnet :( :( :(

I've been more harsh than usual cos he gave permission to **** it off :D

thanks for your opinion..... you dont like... oh well

the 'wheezy 2litre engine' aka an SR20.... is FROM the Almera GTi, Primera GT... which produces 140bhp, which does keep up with my mates gti, albeit he has 8lbft torque more, kindly do your research beforehand please

as for the turbo... it has been on my mind but cant justify spending the best of a grand just to stick an angry snail under the bonnet

huh? who said that 30bhp more was gonna be cheap :S

to get that sort of result your looking at cams (JWTs3's £600), piggyback ecu (dastek (£3-400), fpr (nismo £100), cold air induction (Apexi £120), exhaust system (£300 easy)

instanly theres over 1.5k spent

i know that 170+ is doable with the above mods as the sr20 that i am now runnng was pushing out 189bhp until the guy started to break it

im running standard cams, ecu, fpr, a SSA 4-2-1, decat and autech system

155 engine hp ain't bad with the above mods seeing as a standard sr20 puts out 140~ engine hp

I would have to agree with this. When it was all matt black it looked pretty cool. Now it looks terrible and I'm certainly glad you don't live down my road! I wouldn't want that thing dumped outside, sorry. :D
