Hardest PC Games Ever

Well, I'll play through far cry when I get a better pc. Other than far cry I'm not interested in really old titles, though I do hear system shock 2 is good.

a better PC ? im sure far cry used to run flawlessly on my 128mb 6600gt

I personally didnt find any of the games in that list difficualt (didnt play avp or grandprix) Hardcore gamers and casual gamers are going to find that they dont experience difficulty in the same way...

I thought GTA:SA wasn't hard, or is it referring to 100% completion?

I gave up on farcry, I'd play it again but Ive lost it

Done Homeworld2, I found Nexus harder

Did Marine and Alien on AvP, but not Pred, I couldnt get passed all the aliens that kept mullering me

The hard thing about Armed Assault is getting it to run :D

Anyone who says Far Cry was easy needs to try 'realistic' setting. Utterly impossible. You die in a couple of shots...I never even got to the trigens. I think I completed it on the one above normal, and there were a few bits that were a right bitch (I didn't abuse/cheat for the rocket corridor before Krieger boss but did on the very last bit in the volcano crater, the AI on those big rocket things was so awful all you had to do was stand by where u came in and they'd all get stuck below you.

SS2 was HARD and SCARY - when reactivating the engines I was so on edge that when a hybrid I'd missed came up behind me and fired a shotgun, my mouse flew across the room as I jumped.

Syndicate: AR was impossible. Syndicate was bad enough.

Don't think I played Final Doom, played 1st ep of Doom on Ultra-violence and that was hard, nightmare I can barely get past the first few levels.

Homeworld 1 was far harder than Homeworld 2. Gardens of Kadesh, anyone? (however, if you beat that level without just jumping away, you get enough resources to pwn the rest of the game)

I completed AvP. I think. It had the Directors cut levels didn't it? I thought it was a great game and persevered with it. Although did a get a bit lost on some levels...

Farcry however did not get completed. I got stuck at the corridor bit but didn't try jamming the door. I got so fed up trying to do that bit that I noclipped to the next bit and 'wtf, I'm not doing that'. So I noclipped to the next bit. 'WTF, I can't be arsed with this...' END. :)

Rainbow Islands! Played that forever as a kid but only had the skills to only just about manage to complete the toy island now and again.

Lets not get into old skool games...I had plenty of Amiga/Atari games that were just uncompleteable..in practice, in theory, or both.

farcry is easy on all level other than realisitc, which if you know what you are doing is easy to beat.

homeworld1 and 2 are easy.

HW1 - gardens of kadesh map takes a bit of planning to beat, but like you said if you do it right you end up with lots of res and about 15 multi beam frig's (you dont distroy the attackers you convert them)

HW2 - everyone keeps saying its hard almost impossible (so much so they patched the game and made it easier) but ive completed this lots of times and refuse the patch it becase to make it easier would ruin it.

I've played 6 of those games and completed all of them. Having said that, I'm not the sort of person that spends ages on a game so I usually select a medium to hard difficulty setting.

I'm surprised Project IGI isn't on that list. It didn't have a save game feature which made some of the later levels stupidly difficult. A few shots and you were dead meaning 20 minutes work was wasted. Most annoying.

Yeah the saved game bit was annoying, tho I always thought Project IGI, while fun, was fairly easy once you got into the swing of it. Clear out everybody from about two miles away, then go in and do whatever it was that needed doing (I forget exactly what that was now).

gta is a game for the masses these days, tehy will never be truely hard

but i've played HW2, farcry, arma IL2 and AVP from that list, all of them nice and hard i think...

but homeworld 1 was harder than homeworld 2 and farcry was just right :)

but IL2 and arma are simulators so they just go above what's needed in a game making them tense aswell as difficult as mastery of the game can only go so far with quick reactions and whatnot

I've completed Far Cry, though I agree that it's not easy. I'm playing it through again at the moment on the second difficulty level, which is pretty easy, but anything more and it's too hard for me to casually enjoy!

I've also finished System Shock 2, but only on the easiest level, and even that was damn scary.

The Commandos games are missing from that list. Simply the most frustrating PC games I've ever played and I gave up all of them.

Project IGI was hard when you tried to play it in a "run and gun" fashion. However, if you sniped all the enemies from afar by using the binoculars to centre the target then it became much easier. The binoculars had a much greater zoom level than the rifle sights.

I'm stuck on one specific level of Far Cry. It's the one where you have 10 bullets at have to jump off a waterfall. I know where the next ammo is but getting there is difficult with the number of trigens in the forest and the fact that 9 times out of 10 they see me coming down the waterfall.

Leave the gun and run like hell. JUmp the waterfall and leg it toward the downed chopper.

IGI was hard - no saving mid level IIRC. I don't know why games do that!

Was just going to post the same thing.

Basically on that level just leg it :D

I agree with AvP being at number one, never completed it. Thinking about it, it would be awesome to play that game in a co-op mode with a group of marines.

use the river. Swim all the way to the coast there is a downed chopper with a working mini guns that can mow down the mobs (there is aslo some ammo in the chopper if i remeber rightly) when you have killed evey mob then go back to the ammo cashes and enjoy.
