Hardest PC Games Ever

I used to love AvP. Completed it as an Alien, Predator and Marine. Strange I didn't find it all that hard.

I used to play online tournaments all the time. Was top in my clan at the time (man I was a geek).

I've also completed Far Cry. Was that difficult?

I don't recall thinking Far Cry was especially difficult at the time. That's not to say it was easy. Homeworld 2 and GP legends were pretty solid - the latter being incredibly un-user friendly, but I guess that was intentional. Final Doom was just silly... I've not played GTA:SA, but it can't have been much harder than GTA3 and VC (which again I don't remember being spectacularly hard).

IIRC, X-Wing and her addons were monsterously difficult. It was one of those games whereby in order to complete a mission, everything, I mean everything had to be just so. Although it could have been my young age causing the difficulty, I suppose...

Not a bad list considering they obviously went for mainstream titles that people will have heard of.

I've no doubt that there are harder games about, but much less publicised for one reason or another.

Actually maybe I was just being crap but I found Daikatana so hard/frustrating that I couldn't even get off the first level I think (that green swamp with insects etc). Or maybe I managed it and gave up soon after, either way I think they really shot themselves in the foot by putting such an irritating level at the start of the game. For all I know some of the later levels might actually have been quite good, knowing Romero's flair for design...

Only completed Far Cry out of that list. It was reasonably difficult, but I liked the checkpoint system and I think I only completed it because it was such a good game, I kept coming back to it.

Couldn't play it again, knowing what I know now about the ending ;)

Played 3 of them, finished one:

San andreas: finished, one of best games ever, I can't believe there are people that haven't played this, this is one of the 1st games I'd recommend any pc gamers to play.

Farcry: halfway through still playing, good game.

Homeworld 2: got bored of it, but yes has some hard missions and its a superb game nonetheless, played it just a week ago for 1 skirmsh again to regain good memory's :p.

Grand Prix legends now what a great realistic racing sim that was, no other sim released has even come close to the skill it takes to drive the cars in that game, it felt like a real accomplishment when i had gone round monico getting decent times not crashing.

Played farcry through once ... on realistic, and whilst it was challenging it wasnt that hard to be quite fair. Then again i can quite confidently say im pretty awesome at fps games :/

AvP ive played and completed, again quite hard but not monsterous.
SS2 completed, was fun but the ending was just more wierd than difficult :(

Far Cry and IL2 are the only ones I've ever played, never finished Far Cry due to a new pc build halfway through and I just couldn't be bothered again, IL2 on hard settings is just that, Hard. I think about 7 missions into a campaign is the furthest I've ever gotten before biting it.

Finished Farcry also, didn't find it difficult at all on "normal", the only hard part was the bit with the water fall where you had to run to the helicopter (??) across the other side of the area with loads of Trigens after you. I might buy it again and try some of the harder settings though.

I thought far cry was too hard especially when the "easy" setting is not very easy. I enjoy more the exploration etc than pixel perfect shooting/dodging etc. I only get to finish games like that if its the only game i play at the time

Nah, Far Cry was alright (played it on all difficulties) but only until you get to the Volcano level (last one). That was hard.

My best game ever.

Interesting as I thought Far Cry was a reasonably tough game overall e.g. climbing up the outside of the Volcano (penultimate level?), the crater and one of the earlier bits when you first meet guys with shields. Yet that "Get to da choppa!" bit I didn't find especially taxing, no need to worry about ammo conservation or weapon loadout etc. A few years ago now but at a guess I'd say it took me maybe half a dozen attempts max compared to several dozen during other sections of the game.

From all those who have branded the games on the list "not hard", it would be interesting to hear what games you consider to be hard.

system shock 2-----finsihed
homeworld 2
final doom-----finsihed
syndicate american revolt
grand prix legends

Out of that list, I've only played FarCry and AVP. FarCry I didn't find all that hard - the Volcano level was a pig to start with....but then you learn a couple tricks and it's easy after that. AVP I don't remember all that well - I know I didn't finish it tho.
