Hardest PC Games Ever

GTA SA was easy but that mission where you have to fly the small rc planes was hard. Far Cry I admit was quite hard, completed it though :).

That mission was only hard because it had a bug in the release version - the plane used fuel even when gliding meaning you ran out too easily. It wasn't supposed to do that, and they fixed it in the later versions of the game and the PC version. Piece of cake after that. Now the Ambulance mission in GTA3 on the other hand - that was just evil!!....

Only two i've completed on that list are San Andreas (which i thought was the easiest of the three 3d gta's) and FarCry which i've done on every difficulty except realistic. I like my fps's to be tough like that though, where you actually have to think a little and use the environment rather than just run and gun.

Loved AvP, and completed it a couple of times. Multiplayer was also ace (or was that AvP2?). Running around with the chaingun thing as a marine desperatly trying not to get backed into a corner :P

Seriously, isn't it about time we had AvP3???

I'll start the petition :)

The original X-Wing remains for me the hardest PC game I've ever played.

There was no mercy in that game, but it still kept me playing though.

I had forgot about x-wing, there was one mission where you were protecting some ships towards the end of the game that i found almost impossible due to the rubbish to the bad AI of helper a-wings. Gave up and waited for tie fighter then, so much better hehe

Tie Fighter was a hell of a game. Die Rebel scum! :D

Completed Farcry, thought it was quite tough in places, especially the last level as i didn't know of the trick to block the doors.

I never finished AvP though i wanted to, i just couldn't kill the first predator i came up against, i think i was missing a trick there.

The hardest game ive played was an adventure called The black Dhalia which came on 9 CD's, absolutely mind bendingly stupid puzzles in that.

a better PC ? im sure far cry used to run flawlessly on my 128mb 6600gt
I have a 9600pro 256mb which I got for free but it's pretty bad. Also my 360's spoiled me so when I get a new pc in a month I hope to play it with full eye candy at 1024/768 (yes, I know I have a small tft, the shame!)

I agree with most of the other posts.. gta is just tedious and time consuming not difficult imo..

An interesting view this - at what point do we draw the line between something being tedious or difficult?

One crucial factor for me is that just because something doesn't require a great deal of skill, doesn't mean to say that it isn't difficult. For example I'd say getting 100% of games like GTA:SA/VC without consulting any kind of walkthrough is pretty difficult (locating all the horseshoes etc).

Personally I gave up on GTA3, completed the storyline and nearly all the missions for VC, and stopped playing SA after I reinstalled windows and couldn't get my savegames to load. None of those games I had any real desire to get 100% completion as many of the side missions are not what I would call genuinely rewarding, more going through the motions. To be fair SA is quite good because the wide variety of side missions means that you can stick to the stuff that you enjoy for the most part.

I completed AvP before the save patch, I didn't really like the game, but I completed it out of pure loathing, I had all the lvl's memorised from all the restarts. The ending movies were less then satisfying to say the least, all that work for about 10-15 seconds CG movie.

SS2 was a brilliant game, challanging but I wouldn't put it in the list, it was however **** your pants scary

I don't know about Homeworld 2, because I never completed the 1st game, I really did like but I don't think I ever got past mission 3-4, was completely useless at it. :(

I thought Homeworld was hard, couldn't get used to using 360 degree camera on both axis with an RTS game.

Homeworld was a very tough game, though a truely fantastic one. Each mission had to be completed almost perfectly or the final level was impossible. At least for me. :(

Homeworld 2 on the other hand was somewhat easier (and disappointing). A spoiler or two was needed in order to get through a couple of the more ferocious levels, as in places there were simply no clues given on how to complete a level.

in my first year of uni i tried for ages to complete it on hard mode

had 2 wins and about 80 failed attempts!

think the hardest game i can remember (that wasn't total crap) is probably Zool 2, got mental towards the later levels

Absolutely loved AVP (pc version), the first game i have played to genuinly get my heart racing on the marine campaign, with the lights low and surround on had you looking in evey dark corner in paranoya

AVP2 probably had the better single player campaign but AVP's pvp was second to none, damn shame the game required such a high spec for the time which really killed it tbh

Completed Pred and Marine on directors cut, never did get around to finishing Alien

Has anyone played Die Hard Vengence? I couldnt even get past the 1 level / 1st enemy so just put it to one side - I even lent it to my friend and he said he couldnt do it and gave up! lol

There's only one mission I found hard in GTA: SA that's the one where you chase down the Learjet with the Cessna. Had to alter the config file as otherwise it was just impossible to catch it. I actually thought the gameflow in SA was pretty good, I haven't done all the side missions (think my highest completion is around 83%). the problem being a lot like the races don't open until quite late in the game by which time you just want to get on and finish it.

Of course it helps having a ruddy great Brady games guide for SA and the walkthroughs on Gamefaq's!

Quite a few games I purchased recently I got stuck on - Hitman (2 - ?), Battlestations Midway. Nothing more frustrating than a linear game where you can't advance unless you complete a mission. As documented in the title specific thread, Colin McRae Dirt is bloody hard too, though some of that may be down to the coding.

Wouldn't mmo's/morpg's etc be harder to complete/finish?

I mean, I'd like to see someone complete guildwars in the time it takes to complete most cruddy fps games.

I mean complete, not just the story. The quests, the armour, the titles. :)

its not hard to complete tho, just takes time ;)

After reading this, I've gone back to play Stalker from the start again.

Only this time I'm putting it on Master (or whatever the hardest one is called).

So far its been pretty tough. There's just no bloomin ammo. You kill someone with an Ak and they've got like 4 to 8 rounds on them. Means you have to go down to lesser weapons, and I've even had to resort to the knife at some parts as I'm just clean out of ammo.

Fortunately now I've got the scope so I can start sniping npc's. Its a bit healthier on the ammo supply.
