Harry and Meghan to resign

I know nothing about the Royals, I tend to avoid tabloids etc. so I haven't heard anything much about these two until this story about them leaving the Royal Family popped up.

I'm pretty neutral here and don't really care what they do, but so far in this thread, I've seen a lot of people insulting them both with little or nothing to substantiate it.

Claims of 'provoking rage', 'traitor', 'golddigger' etc. and the worst I've seen is a minor social faux pas where she possibly interrupted Harry? Or was it his faux pas for not introducing her? Whenever they're asked for proof they just deflect, looking at you especially .Lethal.

It seems that a lot of people buy into the rubbish peddled by Murdoch and his ilk.

Well said.

Spot on

This is doing the rounds on a few social media outlets, pretty much nails it imo.

Just thinking about the news.

A certain ginger haired bearded ex-pongo is being accused of being stupid, and being lacking in a sense of duty.

Have you noticed that pretty much to a man and woman, the people saying that have never qualified to fly a complex modern military aircraft, not done multiple combat tours, and not founded an international charity for disabled servicemen.

It's almost like they don't know what the **** they're talking about?

Raymond.

EVERYONE deserves to be happy.
It doesn't matter if you are wealthy or born into wealth..Its clear as day that their mental health has suffered a lot over the years.
To want to escape that and carve their own story shouldn't be some big deal.

The mental health of several members of our Royal family has been the source of discussion by the great unwashed and professionals in mental institutions alike for decades, but I think it's stretching it to say the younger members have had anything excessive to deal with in comparison to thousands of everyday folk who have been thrown some curve balls. Mental health "issues" = the new bad back. Life has never promised endless days of joy and merriment. With great status comes great responsibilities. I suspect Meghan may not be the ideal partner to keep him on track, rather divert him far from it, which is sad, but hey, you make your bed, and you have to lie in it. I can see this getting very sordid and messy...

Your view on mental health is regressive.
Its clear you know very little about the actual struggles of mental health when your making comparisons to a bad back or endless joy. You should, quite frankly educate yourself.
Its good we live in 2020 where old fashioned rhetoric such of yours is largely ignored.

My views on lots of things are considered regressive by the modern liberals, as a barrister said to me last year, a defense that does not include "mental health issues" is a rare beast these days, it's a hard to argue get out of jail card. Get out of work is another bonus... Let's see if Diane Abbott's son's defense cites mental health issues ;) As I said to an old pal who has never been known for his work ethic and now cites depression and other issues for his inability to hold down a job, the only brain problem you have is that it's been self programmed to tell you it's 6.00AM when it's really 9.30 AM, and you love it. No doubt there are many genuine cases, but no doubt drug misuse, simple malingering and plain idleitis also play a huge role. I'll regress back in to the workshop.... ;)

Every post will reference an acquaintance from the past who had a relevance of some sort to the conversation, it's utterly convenient for you to have interacted with people in this way. Very convenient Indeed.

I think for once, you may actually be able to claim first hand experience of the subject matter at hand. ;)

No, not really, I have most definitely never been married to a mixed race, divorced American ex actress from a dysfunctional family. I have my own problems, for sure, but they appear modest at times.... ;)

My views on ....etc
But you dont believe Harry has issues? Hes been talking for years how he has problems...

His mother died in a horrific crash that was broadcast around the world.
He doesnt agree with the firms bid to keep up appearances, he despises the job of being a royal.
And his wife is/was now subject to a torrent of abuse by the UK press.

One of those three points are enough to get anyone depressed, let alone all three.

Agreed.

He didn't ask for it, he hates it and he wants to get out. It's a perfectly reasonable position.

EVERYONE deserves to be happy.
Yes and no.

If they make choices which subsequently make them unhappy, that's no one else's fault.

If their unhappiness stems from press intrusion than a) was it because they did something bad/questionable that is in the public interest to disclose or b) are the press just hounding them for no reason.

There's a lot that can potentially be "in the public interest" when the public are potentially contributing to their upkeep. Otherwise if they choose to cut that cord then they can do what they like as private citizens.

Statements like "Everyone deserves to be happy" are essentially meaningless.

And the royals can't be seen to be international playboys (and girls) getting their jollies courtesy of the public purse.

In their position there are no doubt massive pros and massive cons (to being a royal). You have to accept that the bad comes with the good. They aren't entitled to all the benefits and none of the scrutiny, but they can choose to have neither, or both.

. . .

. . .
I would suggest that the press have two reasons:
  1. Circulation figures
  2. Profit

You do realise he was just 12 years old when his mother was killed in a very public way. He then had to watch the country and royal family clash over how it was dealt with in the aftermath, he then had to walk behind her coffin in front of 10s of thousands of people and millions watching on TV and keep it together. No child should have to go through that. Just because he was born into money and privilege doesn't mean he is going to be better and dealing with what life throws at you and it threw a fair bit at him at a very early age. I wouldn't swap my life for his, no ******* way.

What are your views on Prince Andrew out of Interest?

I think he was an idiot not to take palace advice to keep his mouth shut about Epstein's parties, but I suspect he's the arrogant sort that defense barristers dread being cross examined. He doesn't seem to have good people skills and seems disliked by many. Never having met him I know as much and as little about him as most other people here.

Compared to many people he has no real issues, in very many ways he's in a superbly privileged position, so no I don't believe he has any serious mental health problems, he's just a whinger. Paired with another whinger the combination is what we now see...
