Harry Potter HBO TV series

It's officially announced now. 10 years/seasons is a big commitment, maybe unrealistically so. I can think of very few "big" shows that even managed 10 seasons.

Max Orders First Ever “Harry Potter” Television Series

The Scripted Television Series Will Be A Faithful Adaptation Of The Beloved Original Harry Potter Books Written By J.K. Rowling

Max is thrilled to announce it has ordered an original “Harry Potter” scripted television series, it was confirmed today during Warner Bros. Discovery’s unveiling of the Max streaming service on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles. The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved “Harry Potter” book series by author and executive producer, J.K. Rowling. From Warner Bros. Television, the new Max Original series will be available on Max in (US) and globally once produced.

The stories from each of Rowling’s Harry Potter books will become a decade-long series produced with the same epic craft, love and care this global franchise is known for. The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over twenty-five years. Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.

“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO & Max Content. “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.”

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I'm looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series,” said J.K. Rowling.

Max in association with Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television. Executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts. David Heyman is currently in talks to executive produce.

Urgh and not quite what I thought they meant.
Same as when I got a message flash up on the walkie at work, "Can you nip across and do a bit of service cover on the Discharge Lounge?".

10 years?! Still have no idea how they are going to have child actors not outgrow the roles in a blink of an eye, GoT had that issue with the later seasons.

Didn't realise it was basically remaking the films into a TV series. Definitely feels too soon for that. Many of the actors are those characters so I can't really see some other kid playing Harry Potter or someone trying to follow up on Alan Rickman.

So many of the adults are going to be nigh on impossible to recast, Alan Rickman, Robbie Coltrane, Richard Griffiths, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton, Gary Oldman and the list just goes on. The adults for the most part were an amazingly well casted lot, apart from the book:movie age discrepancy for some.

The cast as a whole was excellent from top to bottom. The age thing never really bothered me tbh, Snape, Harry's Parents, Sirius, Lupen, Wormtail, all of them felt similar in age so it wasn't as though Snape looked 60 and Lupen looked 30.

Will this be the new JK Rowling thread I wonder? The controversy around her will be bound to follow. She is synonymous with women's rights and the friction with TRAs.

HBO rarely make duffers, so even though I'm not a Hogwarts nut, I'd be very interested to commit to this.
There's already a thread for that.

The my really just need to bash one out every year else you're right, the kids will get away from their age by the end of the show. I don't think it'd be impossible to image a 13 year old playing Harry etc, and then by the last season, that actor is 23 playing him. There would be a strong contract going from 10th season and then watching the first, but I can't see it being distracting if done quickly. The issue comes if they give bigger gaps between each season.

10 seasons I'm shocked by, as 7 seasons for 7 bolls felt right, but trust they have the content there. Any word on how many episodes per season? Assume it's 10.

Unlikely - I know a previous thread was closed, but generally speaking there doesn't seem to be many members of a "very vocal, shouty mob" on these forums to derail a discussion on a TV Show with unfounded accusations aimed at the IP owner.

Sorry where is 10 years coming from? There's 7 books so if they film every year like Game of Thrones did that's 7 years.

With pre and post production I imagine it could take 10 years to release all of them from now, but wouldn't be filming for 10 years.

The press release is where it's coming from:

The stories from each of Rowling’s Harry Potter books will become a decade-long series

Or did you mean 'how are they stretching it out to 10 years from 7 books'?
