Has the PS3's time come?

To be fair, most people do not mention the pc version when talking about consoles, it always get's left out as it goes without saying.
Well the developer should have stated he meant out of the consoles the PS3 version will be better. ;)
well i have seen nothing on the 360 that can match gt5p for graphics, pgr4 comes close but not close enough it shows me that the ps3 can be better if used right and the time is spent

GT5P has great cars and the London track too...the other tracks not so much.

I think when the first final fantasy game, and first full GT game comes out for the PS3 then its "time will come". Its selling well at the moment and is gaining ground on its rival HD console, devs are starting to get the hang of developing games on the system, compare this years multi-platform games with last years and there is a big improvement. Many gaming media stated a while back that 2008 will be the year of the PS3, mostly on the strength of Metal gear Solid 4 and a few other exclusives, i still think 2009 will be the PS3's big year TBH. The last 3 months of 2008 and first 3 of 2009 will shape the PS3's future more than any other time in its life.

Ultimately like pc's it's the graphics chip that makes the difference and ps3 (7800gtx) and the 360 (x1900) are not miles apart, the 360 has the advantage if anything. The ps3 'cell' is a bit talked up imo, at the end of the day it is just a processor, anyone remember the ps2 'emotion engine' hype?

The fact the 360 gpu has unified shaders will help am sure, i still think most games look better on the 360 than ps3(i have a ps3 btw) but only time will tell, on the gt prologue side i think the cars look far better than the tracks, the london track i think is pretty poor not as good as london on pgr3.

The PS3's time has already come...

...it's a bluray player.
yet since Hd-DVD dropped out, we have seen a 40% drop in BR player sales:rolleyes:

Poeple arnt caring about BR, they have made the jump in advantages from VHS to DVD, whats selling is upscaling DVD players.

BR players are never gonna impact of sell as much as DVD has done, and still does.

All IMO of course....to little to late..all on a format that isnt even completed yet.

Also, isnt it a lot to do with the 360 bandwidth in how much info it can shunt at anyone time, with the PS3 bottle necking its self most of the time!?

Hmm after reading that article and watching trailers of Mirrors Edge I'm not convinced it's all about the graphics. More to do with the look of the game they are aiming for and perhaps the scale in terms of draw distance etc.

This perhaps where they feel the PS3 and Cell are offering them the better option, who knows we'll have to wait and see.....

I have always felt the 360 has and will have for some time the better graphics due to having a superior gfx card, but in retrospect after watching the recent Gears 2 & Killzone 2 gameplay trailers to me it is apparent that Gears 2 although great looking doesn't seem much of an improvement over Gears 1 visuals where as Killzone 2 looks a lot better than anything I have seem up to now on the PS3, so perhaps the 360 has peaked, where as the
PS3 is just getting warmed up??

Only time will tell, and tbh it's only the exclusive games on either system that are going to show each system strengths (and weakness's) which up to now there haven't been enough on the PS3.

The PS3 doenst count in BD player sales figures, so infact as the PS3 sales have increased so indirectly so have BD player sales.

I did notice that, which I find kinda odd as, lets face it, the only reason it was in the PS3 was to firce inject it into the mass market.

How many PS3 owners are will to nearly pay double for a blu-ray DVD!?...no where near as much as poeple who buy a stand alone dvd player.

Don't admit he's right, that's not the way we do things around here. :p

PMSL Quote of the week imo

On topic.

My understanding of the architectures of these consoles put simply.

If you want to do lots of stuff at the same time. Go PS3
If you want it to look pretty go 360.

Obviously both can do lots of stuff and both look pretty but the PS3 can do more and the 360 looks better.

Speaking of Blu-Ray I've just ordered 8 films, Spiderman Trilogy for £18 and Pursuit of Happyness for a tenner for starters, you can't go wrong!

Everything has to evolve, and that includes DVD's.

Most retailers and rental outlets (in my area) have recently expanded their shelf space for Blu-ray which would suggest that the market has also expanded.

A little to late for what exactly???

people with ps3's will also generally buy a big tv and expensive sound system to go with it if they are interested in the bluray movies... you dont really have much of a point. you could buy mp3's while id pay more for an original cd. you buy dvd's while i'll get the films i want on bluray if i choose. there's no right or wrong its just a choice. and evidently the amount of bluray's being sold is on the rise.

Just won The Departed on Blu-Ray for £10! I was the first bidder on it, most engrossing 43 seconds left on the auction of my life! Brand new too! :D:D:D

Nope I'd agree the BR films are far to expensive especially when purchased from high street retailers, that's why I don't purchase them. But when I go to rent a film I will always opt for the BR version if available as it's the same price as renting a normal DVD so why not have the better quality/experience for the same price :)

Even my local Library rents out BR films for £3 for a week and they have fairly decent selection.

I do have a point, my point was that when poeple where buying DVD players the benifit was obvious over VHS.
How mnay jo bloggs will see that difference in BR over DVD?..im think not many as poeple seem to be buying Upscaling players.
Of course you buy CD's, MP3 quality is crap compared to these, as is CD to records.
Of course BR will sell, just not on the same overall scale the DVD has managed.

Whats your basis that most of the PS3 market have the money to
A: buy a screen that makes 1080p a plus, ie at least 42" plus sized screen
B: buy a HD Surround system to take full advantage of the sound.

I'd be surprised if the PS3 ever overtook the 360 for graphical performance. The locked RAM and poor GPU are probably too much for the cell to compensate for. I don't doubt that it could end up slightly better but doubt it will overtake to the point where there was no doubt about which is best (like the XBox1 was blatantly superior to the PS2).

It's not as straight cut as that and you can't directly compare them but the GPU has a huge influence on graphical performance. The fact is no one knows what the consoles are capable of if pushed properly and we won't know for many years.

What are you talking about then, poor gpu? If we don't know the consoles capabilities.

Couldn't help yourself could you.
