Has your gaming changed?

I don't have the patience anymore for online fps or mobas full of hyperactive kids. These days I prefer rpgs, sims and quality single player games.

I started off as a single player console gamer, playing games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alone in the Dark, broken Sword, Tomb Raider, basically loved horror and adventure and anything I could imerse myself in and escape reality for a few hours after a hard day at school.

This is pretty much still exactly what I want from gaming, but unfortunately modern games rarely measure up to the old games I mentioned. I do also enjoy a bit of coop from time to time, but not really a fan of online games as I just cba putting in the thousands of hours to become good. I'd rather play a load of single player story based games in that time instead.

Yeah in the sense I haven't loaded up a single title this month, struggled to feel engaged on anything for longer than an hour and realised I was just wasting time away that could be better spent elsewhere. I'm sure in the future I'll get hooked on something again for a little while but can't see me returning to the days of looking forward to finishing work to sit and game all evening.

The good old days :(

Used to play a lot of online shooters (mainly COD) with various people, a few I met on here. Nowadays, I'm mostly playing simulators offline - they're a nice chill out after work, I find. I've been playing flight simulators for most of my life however, but these days, the add-ons available for FSX and P3D are out of this world and I get a lot of my simming "fill" from these.

I've been gaming for 32 years and the type of games i play has changed immensely. I rarely touch AAA games for obvious reasons, i find most of them obnoxious. Also, games i would've played when i was in my teens, early twenties bore me to death.

There was a study that concluded most people that play games are in their 30's, early 40's. I just wish Publishers/Devs would start creating games for them, rather than targeting teens all the time. The Japs are terrible for it. I'm an adult and want to play games that are intellectually stimulating. Portal was a breath of fresh air., for example.

Now i find myself playing more Strategy/Puzzle/Simulation games with the occasional title from another genre worth it's salt. Basically, i want to play smarter games. Too many titles these days are dumbed down to stupid levels.

Just hit 30. Not really into any form of online gaming at the moment. Just get triggered to easily by kids running their mouths.

Much happier quietly playing a tycoon/sim game quietly by myself now.

I'm 38 and rarely play a single game for more than an hour either but I usually have 4-5 games on the go all the time. By restricting myself to 1 hour or level/chapter per day and then moving on to the next game, it keeps me engaged and allows me to complete most of the games I start. I find it helps to have different types of games too. Right now I'm playing Vanquish (shooter), Pillars of Eternity (RPG), Town of Light (horror), Mass Effect Andromeda (action/adventure) and Valley (casual last game of the evening wind-down category ).

Hardly play anything now except BF (although nowhere as much as what I would have played 2/3+ years ago) and if it weren't for the guys I play with of here, I wouldn't touch bf games.

Single player wise, very little now and if I can't get into a game, I won't even bother attempting to finish it, years ago, I would have completed it regardless.

Lots of games that I look forward to but come release, they just disappoint, be it performance, bugs or something like awful dlc or micro transactions practices and if they ever sort the issues out i.e. 4+ months later, I have no hype or interest left in the game.

I don't have any patience for games these days either, I just like games where I can jump in for a couple of hours and not have to learn a **** load or put loads of hours into it in order to get good at, also don't have as much love for loot/grindy games now.

Saying that, currently loving assassin's creed origins.

For me, gaming got stale, AAA games got shorter and all graphics no gameplay, and just boring, and everything I liked came out on early access and I grew tired of the game before it had even been released (DayZ, Rust, 7 Days to Die, PUBG). Gaming seamed dead to me, until last summer when the Oculus Rift dropped to £399 in the ‘summer of Rift sale’ it changed the way I game for ever, it’s absolutely incredible! I have only played a handful of non VR games since, and even then I play them on virtual cinema screen in VR!

Sadly my GPU has decided it no longer wants to work so I’m now taking an enforced break from gaming, aside from Football Manger as I can play that on crappy laptop, I’m itching to jump back into VR, I can’t wait!

I use to love 1942 on the Xbox 360

I also played the BF1942 Desert Combat mod online, back then (2002)our internet was dial up & sometimes unusable but playing capture the flag on Gazala map was epic. By mastering the art of driving the little buggy which used to skid all over the place for many players I used to snatch the flag & shoot off down the narrow twisting canyons with Hind helicopters trying to stop me with rockets & usually ending up crashing. Arriving the other end to touch the flag pole was the hard part as the other team would be waiting with Abrams tanks & my team trying to divert their attention, Happy days

Back then I was self employed & working from home & used to stop for lunch, decide to have a quick play & then 4 hours later still be there :p

First 10 or so years was shooters only for me, now I tend only to play MMO's, though of late nothing tbh, just struggle to find a game that grabs me.

Am opposite to a lot on here, simply can't be bothered with most single player titles anymore. Keep trying but just get bored. Last I enjoyed was D-Ex Human Revolution. I really loved most of the A-Creed titles but not even bothered by the latest because even though it looks stunning it just looks the same as the others, mission wise. Far Cry, same.
Am going to have a shot on Nier Automata when it drops in price, hopefully that will be different enough to pull me away from grinding BF multiplayer.

Used to massively play FPS shooters but getting old and very slow, relatively speaking.

Was also massively into mmorpgs and could play all day. Not touched one for a year and the thought of raiding makes me feel sick.

My times far too precious to waste in whatever mmo was flavour.

You should check out Hellblade: Senua's Sacrafice too if you're looking for something different - it's really unique, looks stunning, satisfying combat with a decent sprinkle of WTFness going on throughout.

Definitely. Sitting down to play a game for hours I tend to get a guilt complex; and start to think I should be doing something more productive with my time.

I know it sounds rather odd. I think this paranoia comes from friends, colleagues and family; when they ask what I did yesterday/weekend? Gaming is still a bit of a Taboo topic, whilst sitting and watching crap on TV; binging on a box set is perfectly agreeable?

Anyway, back on topic. The current AAA PC games hold little interest for me, too cinematic (scripted) so retro gaming is for me. The nostalgia of classic games, I either played or yearned is a big draw.

I picked up a Switch as a treat for quitting smoking. I was unsure but what the hell. The idea of portability was the main motive. Tablet conversions are great but touch controls - I hate. Anyway, the Switch was left untouched for 4 months as buyers remorse set in; I thought it was a bit childish.

I fired it up last night for the first time to play Skyrim. I could not help but grin like a loon! Whilst I am rubbish with console controls, just chilling in bed, listening to music, it was great and the spring board to re-kindle my interest in gaming.

I no longer have the time, patience or inclination to grind anything! MMORPGs are kinda out the window now, and anything where you have to keep playing a lot to be able to keep up is also out (ie, the opposite of CS and R6:S)

I used to have no interest in fantasy of sci-fi games, preferring games that were more realistic. I also had no time for RPGs. That changed when I was introduced to Oblivion and Mass Effect in 2008 at university!

Now I seem to have a keen interest in games set in the past that let me explore a historical setting - whether that is Age of Empires or Mafia!

I also never played games online, whereas now I do, a bit.
