Haswell -E Core i7-5960X, 5930K, 5820K specifications

How are these going to compare against the 4790k? is it even a fair comparison? im still running a 920 at the moment, but i feeling like my system could benefit from a newer motherboard, usb3, sata 3, its z97 or x99.

We won't really know until they get released and the first benchmarks start appearing. But the performance should be similar in single threaded performance as similarly clocked Haswell parts.

Threaded and memory/io bandwidth they'll be leading the pack I would say. Depends what software you run really, whether it's worth it over the mainstream z97 stuff.

I'm in the same boat as you. Desperate for an excuse to get a new CPU but there doesn't seem like a whole lot of improvements over the first generation i7's yet. I'd definitely like to try out USB 3.0, PCIe 3 and SATA 3 but is it worth an upgrade yet? I'm not too sure.

Intel demos its cooling solution for Core i7-5000 ‘Haswell-E’ chips

Intel Corp. this week demonstrated its new cooling system designed for the forthcoming high-end desktop (HEDT) processors code-named “Haswell-E”. The new cooler, which will be supplied with the Core i7-5800/5900-series microprocessors, will be bigger than the current one and will thus be able to dissipate more heat without creating too much noise. It will also be shipped with current-gen LGA2011 offerings.

Since when is Intel supplying their coolers for the -E platform chips? Not complaining though, at least one can test out the rig before going liquid/sub zero on the off chance that you get a rare DOA.

Since forever. Think Ivy-E was the first they hadn't. Obviously didn't sit well with some if they're packing them in retail again. Also it's a brand new socket so aftermarket and waterblocks will be few for a time.

Oh sod money. Picking hairs when you're talking RAM. There will be tons of different kits this year. I've no doubt I'll have bought at least a couple come Christmas
