So the average so far is 4.4GHz.
I'm not going to lie, i'm not enthused by this.
Bear in mind that it's a minimum of 6 cores running at this frequency and not just 4

I am aware of that. But comparing to my 4.6GHz SB-E, it's not looking at being a cost effective upgrade at all as a 4.4GHz Haswell-E isn't going to be much faster than what i've already got.

To get the 4.4ghz performance of a HE out of your SBE you need to be clocking to around 4.8ghz. However, the numbers between 4.6-4.8 as you probably know are quite minimal any way.
It's not worth it. Not unless you want and can use an 8 core CPU, thats the only offering worth taking with HE if you're on 6 cores already.
I would take the itch elsewhere and maybe treat yourself to an enormous SSD, two GPUs, a new case.....
If your coming from the I5 2500K, then its worth every penny imo.

So, got it all installed and it's running. But, I upgraded my BIOS and now it won't recognise my boot disk. If I hit F8, I can manually select the correct disk, but it won't boot automatically from it.
Suggestions appear to be a re-install of windows. Is that the only option?
have you tried changing the boot priority inside the bios? it might help
make sure that your os drive is connected to the correct sata port on the board
I started like this and it booted OK. If this is the case, then I need to figure out how I can add more diskseither that or disconnect all the sata ports you have except your ssd/hdd with your os on then see if it boots into it like that
if all that fails its gonna have to be a reinstall

Alas, it doesn't even appear in the boot priority list.
I will check this when I get home. I didn't realise there was a correct sata port for the boot disk Can't seem to find which one it is in the manual, do you know which it is?

Not too much of a train smash if it comes to that.
Thanks for the response!
Your first boot drive usually gets connected to the very first sata port on your board. Look in your board manual for sata port 0 or 1.
I will do that. It's funny that the other two drives are recognised and presented in the boot list. When I get home, I'll have a look at the ports that are plugged in and ensure I'm in the lowest port. Cheers.
What is that average overclock of the 5960X with good high end air cooler or decent water cooling?
All the X99 chips seem to be reaching 4.5Ghz comfortably. With a few chips capable of 4.7Ghz > 4.8Ghz with quite a lot of volts and very good cooling.
It's still early days, so hopefully with improved bios / better memory compatibility things will improve a bit as well.
in the advanced section go to the boot section then go down to hard drive bbs priorities and see if the hard drive is in there if so set it as the first one and disable the others this means thats the only drive that it will detect
if it doesnt appear then move the sata cable to either sata port 0,1,2,3 then it should appear in that list
