setter, given the outlay required, would a 5820K be a worthwhile upgrade for a video encoding machine over the 4790K?

I can budget £600 within the next 4 weeks so any chance of a quick spec up for me to run with. Cheers.

yes 50% increase in cores will make quite a lot of difference in rendering

It would be a massive improvement from the benchmarks ive been looking at, the extra 4 threads and 2 cores seem to help a ton with video work.
Wait until black friday and see if there is any savings to be had. Worth a shot to see if anything you want is on sale isnt it :p

Yeah, link to the better memory if you would. I'm not sure if it'll have any bearing on what I do but options don't hurt. I've got about 250 Blu-ray's in the queue so getting the time required down has become a must. :p

Hey guys,

Been messing about with overclocking since I got the new setup and just wanted to ask a few questions.

I am currently sitting on 4.5ghz, with 1.25v and getting idle temps of around 30-33 average over all cores with a max of 50-53 whilst playing games. This is on air though - Phanteks cooler.

Literally all I have changed is multiplier, set RAM frequency manually, and also set the vcore manually. What else should I be changing in the bios settings if any?

And for air, based on what I have seen I have a lot of headroom temp wise to push further but I think I will leave it as is for the time being. :)

Its about what i get tbh.

Think you won't get much more benefit above 4.5ghz especially for the ammount of power going to be needed

Guys, I need to go back to the temp programs you use to monitor CPU temp. HWinfo is just confusing me again as there are so many values.

I can assume the core max is correct and package but want to be 100% sure im not cooking here lol

So what temp programs you use? ANd if you use HWinfo - what stat do you look at?

Cheers, will give it a shot

EDIT:

Just did and it confirmed what settings I should be looking at in Hwinfo which is individual core temp, along with Core max temp :) bangin
