That cooler should be grand, rated a bit better than the k2 that im using. I had considered an asus board myself but the msi in sig was the one available in the bundle i was offered.

Hi Gents,

Built my 5820k system on Friday, had it outside of the case until yesterday. Was getting 27ish degrees idle and around 34 in bf4. Thats with xmp enabled on the 2400mhz ram which brought the cpu up to 3.6ghz. Not overclocked it properly yet though.

Put it all in the fractal design define s case last night and am now getting about 29 degrees idle, but during bf4 it went up to about 44. It is cooled by an ocuk techlabs 240mm all in one. Do you guys think these temperatures are ok?

I have one 140mm exhaust at the back and 1 140mm intake fan at the bottom of the front panel, with the 240mm rad in the front above it. All fans are set to max in the bios, noise isn't an issue as I play with a headset.

Anything you can think of to improve things?

Thanks

For anyone who uses HWinfo64 - which rows are the correct temperatures for CPU and socket?

There are so many different sensors being picked up I don't know which one to look at.

Going to have a proper shot at overclocking tomorrow. Just ran prime for the last hour with the CPU at 4.5ghz at 1.25v but that was only on the multiplier and everything else on auto.

EDIT: Just had another look and the one that seems to make most sense is the "Core Max" in the category with all cores and core # distance to tjmax. Would this be the one?

Not convined core max is the best to look at. I found one for package and CPU and that looks correct so will use that lol

Hope it goes well, excellent case choice,. Though I'm a little biased in that regard.;)

Yeah fingers crossed! Been a long time since I've done a fresh build with new parts. Last time was about 5 year ago I guess with 2500k.

I skipped sb, went from x58 to Ivybridge, i5 then i7. Then several haswell i7's. Which I liked, if a little hot. 5820k is actually cooler by comparison.

I've yet to clock the 5820k, still reading up on it before diving in. But the 4790k would often hit the mid 70's in games when clocked at 4.7.

I've decided I'll finish decorating my geek room today and commence my build tomorrow. No point putting new gadgets in a half done room eh!
