I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not, but if you had a few seconds to come up with an opener could you do better? I wouldn't have said that but I doubt I would've come up with anything at all.

Was in a similar kind of situation today. Was getting the bus back from Belfast today which took pretty much 7 hours. And once I got off the boat in Scotland this nice looking girl sat next to me.

I had my mp3 player on but after about 3 hours she started talking to me when I took it off. We got on pretty well and all and when we changed buses at Glasgow she sat next to me again.

Crossed my mind of asking for her number towards the end of the trip, but figured she was probably just sitting next to me just because. Outside of bars and clubs i've never asked a girl for her number, just seems something a bit off about it or expect them to turn round and say "Calm down, I was only sitting next to you on the bus."

But oh well, live and learn plus it made the bus trip more interesting anyway.

That's because the 'looking' part is only the first in a long series a social things that needs to happen in order to pull...

At least it means you LOOK the part, even if you couldn't then make up a crazy excuse to talk to them (probably not that you'd want to with most of them)

You probably could have said "hey, what's your name?" done a little more small talk paid her a compliment (hey, you seem pretty interesting) and then asked her to go out for a coffee sometime.

If she'd have said no, you'd be in exactly the same situation as you are now, i.e. no loss.
