I changed the fan settings in the smart fan 5 in bios last night, clicked save and restart...by the time windows had loaded the fans were back to almost full whack, loud, annoying etc while idling...any ideas why???
Ive changed the RAM profile to XMP and that appears to have taken effect but not the fans. Or at least it doesn't seem to making much of an effect. When i go back into the BIOS it all appears to be saved and the fans modulate down to very low while in BIOS but when I'm actually using the Pc the fan speeds sound like they're going pretty good, even if i save a silent mode or create my own fan curve with them all very low...

Odd, have you tried it in the App center, SIV I think it's under .
Have quick options like silent, Turbo etc .
If that a try and restart to see how that goes along, then theirs the custom fan or auto Tune option .
Might be able to tweak the fan settings a bit better with the software then bios
