Have you lived on a council estate?

well done for having the ambition to move out.
shame other people dont have the same ambition, living in council housing for a long time is a joke imo (there are some exceptions, but not many)
My parents fall into the exception, my dad cant work due to a broken back and my mum cant afford to pay to live in a bought house so they live in a council house.

There is some rough an not so rough areas to my estate, I'm in one of the quiet parts full of old people.
Idealy I want to get out of sheffield altogether an start fresh somewhere else.

My ex g/f lived in a council house, the area is pretty rough now, but I do admire some people who have to tolerate the kind of abuse and disruption they had put up with. Then again it makes me feel lucky that I live in a nice area, she had a paedo in her street, a rapist and god knows what else. I must admit I hated leaving my car there overnight it was that bad!

yes, that is definitely in the exceptions list, i feel sorry for anyone that needs council housing and gets put on a bad estate.

Lived in one for over 25 years in Wembley. Now they've demolished it. It was a huge eyesore and very unpopular. A real breeding ground for crime. Even the police were afraid to come in here. Thank god for the new Wembley Stadium and the whole regeneration project all over the area. They moved us into a brand new house.

Now I'm lov'in it.

It's weird, on this estate I never get any trouble, but I've been smacked in the face by someone for no reason on another estate about 1/2 a mile away. Ironically, I feel safest on this estate I live on than most other parts of Rochdale.

Oh a Rochdaler. Where abouts are you? Not Kirkholt is it?

I lived with my Dad for two years. It's 50/50 there though, some houses bought, some houses council owned. Wasn't too bad. You got chavs, but they didn't cause any trouble in the part that my dad lived.

You could tell which houses that were privately owned though.

18 years on one in Pontefract (Nevison). Excellent community, everyone looked after each other, yes there was trouble, yes there was fights, but it was all contained and the culprit(s) usually found within an hour and severely dealt with.

Loved it.

nope and from what i have personally seen I never want to.

Closest one to me is probably bootle/litherland in Liverpool.
Been there once delivering a pizza and some crack addict decided to kick off as i didn't open the door for him, maybe because he was calling me a **** for 5minutes before hand :/

Have done all my life and still do. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. I don't see what the people's problem is who are slating them. There's bad people and criminal's everywhere, If they live in a decent area they're just higher up the food chain

Very true indeed. Living in a 'nice' area with more expensive private housing, by no means guarantees that you will have good neighbours, or that there won't be criminals living there. Nor does it mean that there won't be people living off benefits - some people seem to believe that single parents with loads of kids only live in council houses. Not true.
