Have you swapped your MSI 7950?

a quick test before bed looks like roughly 1000 core is max with no extra volts does this seems low? as im a little dissapointed tbh havent touched the memory yet.

well off to bed will have a play tomorrow hope i can get atleats 1150 on the core .

What clocks do you have to get too to match 7970 performance?
What are safe 24/7 clocks for these cards?

I use 1250Mhz core and 1550 memory with 1.25v on the core and default volts on the memory.

I use these clocks for hours on end in BF3 with not problems and temps not going over 64c.

Not tried higher than 1250 yet but doubt I'll bother - it won't make any difference apartment benchmark figures....

Sent my card off to OcUK yesterday with my bricked motherboard. HIS card dispatched today. Now that's quality service.

Shame my mobo will be weeks behind it as it'll be heading off to wherever MSI HQ is! :p

Generally 50-75mhz higher OC on the 7950 matches the 7970. Safe 24\7 will depend on each cards capabilities. Personally I would say 1100-1150 should be good for most 7950, this is my personal opinion. :)

is that on the base 800mhz clock or on top of the 900mhz clock speed?

so basically without even using any voltage my card running 1000/1250 is now 7970 speeds or do i need to up memory speed also? whats the safe memory clock 24/7 on these cards?

sorry for all the questions i hunger for knowledge!:p

gonna have a play later to see what i can get not gonna push hard will be happy at 1150/1500 for 24/7 clocks and have no intrest to push for benchmark scores.

Same here anything above 1150 I'm happy with :)

ATM I got mint at 1150/1800 @ 1.16. Surprisingly saw as much of a performance gain by putting the memory high too.

Well Chris 925mhz is stock 7970 core so 50-75mhz faster 7950 which means 975-1000mhz 7950 core and voila you have 7970 speed. Faster clocked 7970 cores you just add 50-75mhz to make up the difference. the memory on the 7970 is generally 5500 which is 500 faster than 7950 but to be honest I dont mess with the memory as I dont think the gains are as good as on overclocking the core. The 7950 memory can be clocked also and I understand 1500 (6000) is achievable.:)

He means whatever the clock the 7970 is, you need 50-75 mhz extra on the 7950 to match it.

okay thanks

wow you have that memory running very fast! did u have to up mem voltage for that? is that safe? do you run that 24/7?

what is your 24/7 clocks and volts rolypolyman?

i have to say im very very impressed with how quiet this card is and how cool it run the vrms at 1450 havent gone above 62c! and the core hasnt gone above 57c when i was running 1200/1450 at 1.25v sadly it locked up at this clock speed not sure if to put a little more volts into it temps are perfectly fine but seems like a lot of volts to be pushing what do u guys think? is there much benefit getting to 1200 over 1150?

hmmm may have problems!!! grrrrr

i had it set at 1150/1450 @1.211v

played metro2033 on everything max was fine for half hour then started to see artifacts so tryied backing down the clock but nothing then went to stock clocks and still have it happening looks to only be in this game though!! it now happens as soon as it gets to the menu screen even on standard clock speed! any ideas why? all other games are fine and this was fine.hmmm

why can nothing go smoothly

You probably need more volts to make it more stable at that clock you can go all the way to 1.3v core safely apparently if your temperatures are good.

Interesting article about oc 7950

thanks had a little read of that
i put some more volts through her 1.237 and its now fine came on here and was suggested the same so did something right!:D

1150/1450 @1.237v with load temps of max 64c sits around 61c.

very impressed with this cooler keeps things very cool and quite.

is ther much point/benefit of pushing the memory further for a 24/7 clock? or will i see no difference in game?

Yup got it at 1800 on stock memory voltage . Don't know about safety but max temps are 68/9c with fan on auto which is about 55%

With the memory humbug posted a thread where he noticed as much of a performance gain by upping the memory as much as the core. So yes there is a performance gain. I will try find the link mate.

Remember humbugs 7870 has a 256 bus though so he'd probably see a larger gain from a memory overclock than 79xx user with a 384bit bus i reckon. That's not to say us 79xx owners don't get a nice boost as well though, cos we do. :)

yeah that would be good cheers mate.
anyone know the safe limit to clock the memory too?

running 1150/1550 @1.237v load temps of 65c.
pretty damn happy with this card.
