Having a bit of a nightmare putting new pc together, pls help

you can,you have room, ram should be in the slot nearest the fan and the slot right at the end

just move the one on the left over one slot then try,if it still loops take out the gpu then try with mb graphics

might need latest bios to get the gpu working

Intel i5-3750k 3.6ghz
ASRock Z77 Extreme 4-M
2x2gb OCZ Special Ops PC3 12800 Ram
Nvidia GTX 680 2gb
Corsair TX550M PSU
Alpenfohn Brocken CPU Cooler

BTW is that Ram dated ? should i think about upgrading it to newer ram ?

so the ram should be in the 1st slot and the 4th slot, or the 2nd slot and 4th slot ? Im guessing the 2nd and 4th but in your first sentence you said it should in the slot nearest fan which is actually the first slot.

I second all this advice. :)

Second and forth.

The slot nearest to the fan is the second slot, slot one is under the fan.

Slots 2&4 going from left to right of the cooler.:)

it could be the memory, ocz is old now? what board was it from

can try with no gpu installed, see if that lets the board boot, remember to plug display cable in the mb

maybe memory incompatible? if its not that could be bent cpu socket pins

or a mb/psu fault if pins are fine

The board needs an 8pin ATX connector attached near the CPU socket, I cant really tell from the pics if you have done this.

it should work but it is old, looksliek x58 memory to me? not sure, can try with just one stick

unplug either one of the two sticks and try

try one stick in fourth slot now?

if it boots, then seemslike memory compatibility issue, running latest bios version might help

if no boot then do a quarter turn undone on each cpu heatsink mounting screw

if it still wont boot then I would carefully inspect the cpu socket for any bent pins (but take care when looking not to damage any) post pics if need be

ok so...

- if i put either stick of ram into just the second slot the computer boots
- if i put either stick of ram into just the fourth slot the computer does not.
- if i put a second stick of ram into the fourth slot whilst the first first stick is in the second slot the computer does not boot.

could it be possible that the fourth slot on the motherboard is broken ?

For the record both sticks of ram worked fine on my old Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P motherboard

an overtightened cpu cooler can cause that, same as bent cpu socket pins (under the actual cpu)

the memory controller is inside the cpu so that's what causes the ram issues if any of the above has happened

it'll bootup with one stick in any of the four slots,so you have a problem

tried loosening, hasn't made any difference. cpu socket pins seem ok as well.

in the bios it says its in "single channel memory mode", is that related or does it just say that because only 1 stick of ram is plugged in ?
