Having a Vasectomy

I had a vasectomy aged 33 (now 39), no bother at all.

Small injection into the tube on one side, slight sting - less than a dentist injection, small cut, a little bit of pulling at the tube to get it out - felt uncomfortable rather than painful, cut a section out of it - didn't hurt at all, burnt the ends with an electrical thingy, tied the ends - again just uncomfortable then stitched up the tiny hole in the sack then onto the left one.

All done and dusted in 10 mins.

No side affects six years later and lets just say the wife and I have run extensive tests to see if the procedure was successful!

You take the venom out of a cobra and what do you get.........a belt? - Glenn Quagmire. Summed it up nicely for me :P

I had it done about 7yrs ago.. Two kids was enough for my wife and i. I do remember that initial injection into the nutsack being the absolute most painful experience i've ever had, Fortunately it only lasted a split second... But its something i'll never forget. After that its just a case of laying back watching the plume of smoke as he wraps up the job, and you're on your way.

I may of lost a little sex drive, maybe 5% he did say it'll go down naturally with age. I said don't worry Doc, I'll go down a fighting man !

Hey, something I wouldn't have to worry about! I have it already. Idiopathic, which is a nicely formal way of saying "we have no idea what's causing it". They even had a look around when they had my scrotum cut open for another reason, but found no cause. Apparently it just happens sometimes. Maybe it will go away. Maybe it won't. Probably not, given that it's hurt for over 20 years now, but they don't really know since they don't know the cause. It feels like excessive pressure, but I've no idea if it really is or if that's just my brain sticking an explanation on it for the sake of doing so.

You get used to it because you have to. I'd rather not, but it is how it is. Could be worse - I have pain only in one testicle rather than both. They don't know the reason for that either.

Could they not remove that testicle? Pretty sure you won't need it for anything now.

Crossing my legs whilst reading this thread, I'm in the same boat. My 2nd child is due any day now, and my Mrs keeps pushing me for this

tell her to get her tubes tied if she doesn;t want anymore kids, why is it you that has to have yours done ?

Her argument is, she's gone through pregnancy and then the labour. It's a valid reason, this pregnancy at the moment has been rough for her, in and out hospital for well over a 3 months with numerous complications, it's been hard for both of us, but as she's the one carrying the baby it's natural for her to feel worse

What specifically is your Mrs moaning about? You keep having kids or something?

I had a vasectomy last August. I'm nearly 40 and have 2 children and don't want any more. The tube cutting was uncomfortable but not painful. In and out in a morning. No after effects, no loss in sex drive, no feelings of emasculation.

Has helped my GF too now she is off the pill. Although periods are heavier, her sex drive is noticeably higher and her "finishing move" is far more frequent.

Flying elbow from the corner of the mattress? :D

I was 38 when I had mine done (41 now). 2 kids, didn't want anymore and wife can't use the pill. It was quick, easy and the only discomfort I felt (other than my then 5YO youngest going "hiii-yahh!" and kicking me straight in the spuds 3 days after I'd had it done) was producing 'specimens' for the hospital to test. That is not a pleasant experience!

You have to do it at home! They make a point about not being allowed to do it at hospital so it's do it at home (which was harder than expected because you're doing it for function, rather than just fun) then you've got to get it to the testing area of the hospital within 30 mins.

I did it the required two times but my second test was corrupted so they asked me to take it again; I couldn't give a toss what they asked and left it. No kids 2 years later so it must have been a success :D

An excellent choice of words there :p

Been considering having it done for a while, 34, not really in a position to have more kids with my current partner, and no intention to have any with someone else, she's not keen on the idea though!

...apart from testosterone production which is what gives men drive and energy.

I accept if you're going through puberty the reduced testosterone production may cause some issues. But for a fully grown man, i'd very much doubt that would be the case.

There's also lots of blokes who've had a testicle removed due to cancer etc, and they're managing fine.

My husband had one done 5yrs ago after the birth of our second daughter. It was a choice we made together as we didn't want any more children. He booked in for it when our youngest was a few weeks old, I actually watched them do it to him.

He however didn't have the best experience but I have told him of this thread and said to fill you in on his experience.

Yep I am fully aware. I had one removed due to cancer myself. I had the other irradiated so it's pretty useless. I have to use testosterone gel daily as the lack of testosterone left me feeling very depressed and with no motivation.

A single working testicle will be ok for most people until testosterone starts declining in later years. Then it's not such a good idea. I'm 47 so testosterone is not important only when going through puberty.

Out of interest, how much less of a 'load' do you produce now you've had it?
Pondering the same option myself at the moment.
