Having monthly English lessons on the forums?

I really can't see this working. People who don't have a grasp of the English language probably don't care that they are wrong, even though it makes them look retarded.

I care, I make the effort. Even if it takes me half an hour to structure a couple of paragraphs; I still put the effort and try and learn. I don't think people realise how hard it is for some people to undertake what others think as basic knowledge. Its more than patronising to read threads like this as it makes me and other people who struggle "not looking retarded" feel like *****.

I got an E in english and I have slowly started to correct my errors and writing in forums. I may not be brilliant at english but I try, I know this doesn't account for everyone as there are generally people who don't care how bad they spell or write but I don't think this accounts for everyone that doesn't have a "grasp".

He's asking about mistakes he's made in the sentence. It's a perfectly relevant question. I think you need to differentiate between spelling, punctuation and grammar.

And just for the record, there is no such word as "should've".

Don't see any 'asking about mistakes' in his post. Improvement yes, mistakes no.

Right, is that why you removed it from your post? :D

Nice try.

You're just nitpicking. He was literally asking how to improve a sentence, which is 100% a grammar related question. You were wrong to say it wasn't relevant to the thread topic, which suggests you don't have a particularly great understanding of grammar yourself.

But if everyone learns how to communicate properly how can we glance at a post for bad grammar/spelling and then automatically label the writer a moron for their mistakes and ignore their opinion? If a post has bad grammar/spelling then I know I can just briefly glance over it and know I won't be missing much.

Have to say though, the amount of should ofs around here is quite depressing.

That's focusing on the finger pointing at the moon and(possibly) missing the heavenly glory. Guess the film reference. :p

Surely to improve is to eradicate mistakes?

Well improving doesn't necessarily mean there are mistakes, more like making it better or revising it.

What I meant in my post was that the OP seemed more geared to be about correcting the usage of words (like they're, there and their) rather than improving on an already grammatically correct sentence :)
