Hayfever - Thread

I get whatever the supermarket has for the cheapest (of Loratadine), usually about £2 for 30 IIRC. I take it every day from March-Sept to keep mine at bay. I never had when I was younger but it started about 3 years ago. Leaving windows open at night (as much as I need it to sleep) is not optional for me anymore.

I’ve always mildly suffered with hay fever, always treated it with an off the shelf tablet on really bad days and been fine.

However we moved into a new house and it has quite a substantial garden. We’ve gone to town clearing some parts and bought a garden shredder too. After using it though I get asthma like symptoms (haven’t had any in over 12 years), and an itchy rash up of both of my forearms as well as the usual runny nose and puffy eyes.

Need to see a GP me thinks.

I did also start taking loratadine daily and found that it affected my ability to get ‘excited’ shall we say. Stopped taking them and fine again. Anyone else fine that?

I'm doing really well for hayfever this year. We've moved house and the blossoming trees behind the garden had minimal effect, thankfully. Fingers crossed for summer

I used to be really bad with hayfever but as I've got older it seems to have largely gone.

It was gradual but noticed I was taking less and less antihistamines over a few years and I don't think I've even got any in the house now. Still get the odd twinge in my nose but nothing like it was.

I'm not complaining!

Does there really need to be a thread about hayfever perpetuating the sterotypes of computer nerds.. but yeah, mine is fine so far.

Haha, you do kind of picture that Simpsons episode where Bart has all those medical issues don't you :D

I'm the opposite, never used to suffer with hay fever, hit early forties and every spring I get swollen nasal polyps (can't breath through my nose), and sometime my eyes feel like they're going to pop out, usually lasts about six to eights weeks, seems to coincide with the cherry blossom, luckily once that's gone I'm OK.

42 years old, never had hayfever or issues with pollen in my life, then at the start of this recent warm spell, my eyes are itchy, watering, nose is streaming, sense of smell gone, generally feel beaten down. Trying some nasal spray (Pirinase) that offers brief respite but generally feel like i have the start of a bad cold constantly.

EDIT: Had covid test at work, not that before anyone suggests it :D

Have had 5 really bad days so far this year, not bad at all, bad as in runny/full nose all the time, sneezing, itchy eyes etc. Not the worst but annoying. For some reason for me late February and March are the worst, must be some tree pollen I guess.
