Hayfever - Thread

Not getting it too bad at the minute, the odd sneeze but that's it. I seem to work the opposite for hay fever, seems that on days with a lot of rain it effects me more, rubbing eyes, runny nose, sneezing etc.

You're probably sensitive to tree pollen that is heavy, unaffected by rain and released by the trees when it does rain, the opposite to grass pollen, which is what's affecting people most right now, which gets damped down from the air when it rains. Grass pollen is worst on hot, dry, windy days.

Agreed. I've not had hayfever as bad as the last few days in years.

I've been taking the usual Loratadine for a couple of months now and it's having very little effect.

Loratadine does absolutely nothing for me too mate, the only tablet which helps is Neoclarityn - desloratadine inside those I think, little blue things they work wonders! Need to get them prescribed though.

Loratadine was working fine earlier in the season with tree pollen. It's just been terrible this weekend. Certrizine (sp?) makes me very drowsy so I choose to avoid them.

If it doesn't get any better tomorrow I'm off to the docs I think.

Growing your nasal hair works wonders.

I used to be awful with hayfever in my teens up until my mid 20's. In the last ten years, I rarely suffer any more. I put it down to my nasal hair growing as I got older.

Does anyone else have any real problem with their Sinus' blocking up on them?, I would have normal hayfever, nothing I cant treat, but I also seem to go through phases of losing smell/ taste and having a headacheish feeling throughout the day.

I get all the symptoms really bad, puffy eyes which are completely bloodshot, my nose and sinus' are completely blocked. Sometimes it even affects my chest, 2 weeks ago it gave me such a tight chest for about 4-5 days. :(

As a side note:

One does not simply 'MTFU' if their hayfever is that bad, it just doesn't work like that, unfortunately :(

I very rarely get ill at maybe once a year, and even then I don't take time from work and can essentially MTFU!

But with this demonically seasonal plague, it is very hard or in my case nigh on impossible to simply forget about it and get on with your day. Waking up multiple times each and every night because of watery mucus pouring out your nose, and not being able to string a sentence together before coughing when on a VC, certainly has an effect on your day

People who say MTFU with hayfever have clearly never had bad hayfever and deserve to be hit with it badly :p

I suffer terribly with it, endless sneezing and just so run down. But I've just started Pirinase nasal spray along with my usual tablets and it's thankfully ok today. Feel normal for once!

Always had bad hayfever from the age of 16, some years are worse than others but i take the full month when it comes to hayfever. Tablets, eye drops and nasal spray and it holds it back 90% of the time.

The remaining 10% i just bare with it, even if it is a royal pain in the backside.

After suffering with this since being a child I've finally found a few things that actually work, currently using Clarityn which contrain Loratadine and use NasalGuard AllergieBlock gel on the inside of my nose when I get up in a morning and apply some more in the evening, working a treat so far, eyes occasionally get itchy but eyedrops soon sort that out, think I'm going to go clear the shelf of this stuff in my local Boots :D

Wearing contacts has reduced the itchy eyes this year, as long as i don't touch my eyes, i'm fine.

The itching of the roof of my mouth and the constant runny nose is driving me up the wall though =\

I'd have thought I would have built up some resistance now after being on my tablets for 12 days, however it's just like I haven't taken anything, must be strong this year.

These Cetirizine 10MG "one a day" tablets. Are people taking 2 or 3 of these a day and have not died? I ask because I take mines at 6am before I walk the dogs.... I am a mess when walking the dogs every morning as it has not kicked in yet, then I get some relief at the absolute most until lunch time and then the tabs work have completely worn off and I get the symptoms.... so I think if I take another Cetirizine at lunch time I might get almost a whole day with lighter symptoms? I just don't want to OD on hayfever relief :P

I get it pretty bad to be honest, always have. So bunged up it is ridiculous. And I am a runner, doing 60+ miles a week so I am out of the house a bloody lot and it's wrecking me. I even feel it in my chest on bad days and it makes me fatigued a lot :( The absolute most annoying is the itch in the roof of my mouth and my throat, I heard this was your sinus dripping all the gunk back down your throat, lovely!

Just ordered another batch of cetirizine and nasal spray from the docs, can't come soon enough. I'm even taking local honey every day to try and build some immunity but it's doing nothing at all. Shoot me!

okay so here's an update after my last post, most of the tablets i've tried in commerical stores use cetirizine or loratadine as the active ingredient (benodryl etc) but they generally don't work on me including nasal sprays (which have a very weak effect on me and very temporary).

However I've just discovered piriton (not piriteze) which has a different active ingredient chlorphenamine maleate which i cant find in the other brands and it is bloody brilliant. Works amazingly well. Downside is you usually need to take it twice in the day - once in the morning and once in the evening and can cause drowsiness though I personally dont get drowsy.

highly recommended
