Hayfever - Thread

I'm afraid I might be getting it! Had an itchy roof of mouth last week and on saturday while having a barbecue it got all swollen and sore. No blocked nose or water eyes though. Sneezes but that's normal for me, I always sneeze when I first go out in bright weather.

I could really do without this - I love being outdoors. So I'm going to face it like a man and spend as much time as I can outside to try and de-sensitize myself to it.

Glad its not just me that has noticed meds aren't helping so much this year, although the wife had to take some on Sat and they worked for her but she's never had hayfever before.

At the end of my tether after 3 weeks of awful sleep. Have switched between 2 types of tablets so far (Loratadine / Cetirizine). It's worst in the morning for a couple of hours and from about 8pm onwards.

Going to get to the pharmacy and just dose up on everything I can get my hands on, this is killing me :(

Puffy/itchy/seeping eyes, blocked yet dripping nose.....urgh!

I've had hay fever since I was a child, counter bought medicines have always been useless, they're a waste of time, effort and money, prescription only medicines are the way to go, the stuff (flixonase) I'm on now kills it almost completely dead so long as I remember to keep taking it.

Last two days have been pretty horrible for me. I'm a grass pollen sufferer, so normally I'm late April through to early July, but so far this year I've not suffered until the last week, with it getting progressively worse.

Over the counter meds have done nothing for me for as long as I can remember, and I normally get a prescription drug called Fexofenadine. I should be getting my first batch of the year later today, if the GP can pull their finger out of their ****.

I have to take a steroid nasal spray as well to keep it at bay, and as long as I keep up both the tablets and spray I'm generally OK, but if I miss a dose it will take me 24-48 hours to get back to rights again.

I was fine all weekend until I got on the train back from the pub yesterday and then the floodgates opened. I have not been that bad this year but yesterday was terrible.

I've found that the tablets I normally use and keep it under control aren't touching it this year so thankfully my wife picked me up a Pirinase nasal spray and it has been an absolute godsend.

Beforehand I was waking up every morning feeling like I had a heavy cold and blocked ears and now, for the first time in what feels like an eternity, I feel normal.

Current strategy:

1x Loratadine one a day
1x Cetrazine Hydrochloride one a day
Nasal spray
Vaseline on the inside of my nose (to catch pollen)
Glasses on when outside.

Doing ok.

:D

Got some mental picture from this. I get hay fever but I just man up and deal with it. I normally go postal on the local flower beds.

Is anyone else finding that medication just isn't helping this year?

Yup, me too. Itchy eyes, throat, sneezing, runny eyes, etc, etc. Wake up every morning with a blocked nose  I couldn't even enjoy the beer garden or hold much conversation last week with a friend I hadn't seen for months :( Felt like I had the flu. I am feeling sorry for myself, he he.

You need to stick to one type tablet for a few months to see if it has any effect (or so I'm told). Check with the pharmacist when you raid them :D

The current heatwave we've got has made the situation even worse for me, tablets never has worked for me and the nasal sprays which usually did a good job of minimising the itchiness and sneezing are not working.

Stuck at home doing nothing and I still feel like crap. I get more tired sitting on my ass than doing anything related to sports.

I've had it bad, not this bad though.. Nothing seems to cure it, the worst thing is when I sneeze I feel like my eyes are about to pop out. Not even your usual 1-2 sneeze.. When I start sneezing I keep going for at least 5-10 times.

Definitely feel like I need to go see a allergy specialist.

Not getting it too bad at the minute, the odd sneeze but that's it. I seem to work the opposite for hay fever, seems that on days with a lot of rain it effects me more, rubbing eyes, runny nose, sneezing etc.

There was a guy at school I knew and he got it REALLY bad, I mean his eyes would swell up and he would get these weird lumps at the edges of his eyes, never seen anyone get affected by it so badly.
