Hayfever - Thread

This year seems to be significantly worse for me than the past few, I guess something to do with the extended dry/sunny period we're having, but my eyes are constantly itchy, and I'm having to use my blue inhaler a couple of times a day/night when I haven't needed it all for 3-4 years.

Taking cetirizine tablets and fluticasone spray which has worked for me in the past, but it doesn't seem to last long enough now - by ~7-8pm and first thing in the morning I feel like death again :(

Fexofenadine works for me, brilliant that it's over the counter now (cheaper for a month over the counter than the prescription fee).
I went to my docs as I was sick of paying and they give me x60 on repeat. I have one of those PPC as well, as I get 2-3 items a month. So the fact I can bolt these on over the summer, is great. £114.50 for 12 months (£9.54 /month). Given a single prescription item is £9.90, it's a big cost saver. Obviously I wouldn't get a PPC if the only thing you need is occasional hay fever tablets. lol.

Took Fexofenadine last year with great success and taking it this year too. So far so good. I usually take them last thing at night before bed. I did last night as usual, but woke up with morning with a really itchy nose and sneezing a lot. Took another one this morning. Feeling a bit drowsy now :D.

Nothing yet for me but symptoms are getting pushed later on down the year, as a kid it was always April/May and now it's more June/July.

Will be on the antihistamines soon enough.

Anyone have any luck with adjusting diet? I suspect an improved diet would likely lead to better outcomes, but I'm not entirely sure. I did read about caffeine/coffee, or more specifically the histamines within them, can mess with your DAO enzymes and make allergies/reactions worse, but of course that means giving up on the beautiful coffee.

I ended up going to the doctor's last Thursday (10th) after waking up several times during the night unable to breathe, with the following outcome:

Told I can take cetirizine 2x a day, so I started taking one just before bed as well
Prescribed a new inhaler (WockAIR)
Prescribed some tablets (montelukast)

Since I started on those I've felt infinitely better! Not needed my salbutamol inhaler once, still get the itchy eyes and runny nose occasionally, and use the inhaler when I get a bit tight chested, but otherwise feeling pretty much completely normal! :D

Same. Had to get a new inhaler this year. First time in 4 or 5 years.

The sortness of breath building from 7pm onwards isn't great.
Then waking up struggling every few hours.

Yeah, it's definitely not fun! See if you can speak to your doctor, I'm not sure whether it's the new inhaler or the tablets which have made the difference for me, but one of them has helped significantly!
