HD DVD

£32.50 I saw one for. If they had sold them at that price to start with the format may not have died on it's arse. Why bother even cheap that drive wont last very long.

How long before you won't be able to get any new movies for it though? Great price for the player though.

I've also seen them for £32.50

Not saying they are shoddy drives, but if you get one and it packs in or you drop it, how will you play your hd-dvd movie collection then? You won't simply be able to go out and buy another drive as they are no longer manufactured.

Might be appealing at the price but it's dead money.

If you're looking for a cheap upscaler then go for it, otherwise you're just buying in to the dead-tech.

Well look at it this way, thats £40 now but what if in a few years someones breaks and they cant play the collection. Might be worth something in the future for those that need replacements.

Do these drives work via USB2, therefore on a PC?

Yup.

£40 is nothing. You're not paying for dead technology. There are HD DVDs out there to watch. So if > 7 HD DVDs interest you it's cheaper than buying a Blu-Ray player (yes I know it's a add on so add the cost of a 360).

I would buy one... but I don't have £40 :(

It maybe dead but there's a lot of good films out for it and they'll get cheaper and cheaper. Already seen a place in Aussyland selling them for under £5 each plus only a few quid delivery.

Its not ideal but not all bad.

So lets say you go out and buy the HD-DVD 360 addon, that's £40, and then you want say 20 films at £5 each, thats £100 - £140 total.

Then in a couple of months you spill a drink into your HD-DVD drive, what then? You have basically wasted £140

Just my opinion but I wouldn't touch one, it's now dead technology.

That was a really poor example. I know what you mean but spilling drink on something electrical, really? People like that shouldn't be allowed near it then lol.

It's £40. Just buy another one. It's not like they are going to sell out. They may be discontinued but they still need to be sold.

lol yeah it was, but ok say the laser dies or you drop it, whatever.

My thought are these things are going to be hard to get hold of soon, and you'll only be able to pick them up on the bay for a hefty price 2nd hand.

Just doesn't seem worth it mate thats all

Quite ironic actually, a certain jersey based website renamed their HD-DVD players to "upscaling DVD players with HDDVD capability"

That particular player, apparently, does a very good job of upscaling normal DVDs. For the price, it's worth it for that alone.
