HD2900 pro overclocking thread.

Just playing with ATI Tool and so far it "seems" ok at 820Mhz core and 980Mhz memory.

Not tested properly yet though :)

Thats's still a good 3dmark score for the cost of these cards..... I see you also flashed to XT...

No XT flash here mate :) Im just using Riva Tuner to clock my card because I keep at higher than XT speeds anyways now, 800Mhz core and 1700Mhz Mem for everyday use now

Just adding my two penneth worth.

My 2900 pro came through today and I have played with it a bit.

Got it at 758 core and 830 mem using Rivatuner.

This gives me 10709 in 3d6. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3371231

Being a bit of a n00b, I'm not too sure how far to push things?

I see Mr Paul
"seems" ok at 820Mhz core and 980Mhz memory.
But that seems way beyond where I am, though I haven't pushed it. Have you got something going on there that I should be aware of before I go much further? Special cooling? Not sure what, but I thought I'd ask:confused:

Can't recommend the games, but i'm sure gareth using his cross-fire 2600xt's can.. he seems up on benchmarks :)

Incidently you should be able to get to at least 800/900 if not 820/950 on your card :) (nothing in overclocking is guaranteed, but just so you know :))

What’s everybody’s Idle temps?

Mine seems to sit around 52c which is annoying as it means the fan is at 31%, when its below 48c the fan is only at 25% and its near silent.

Is it worth reapplying the heatsink with AS5?

Mine is similar, I'm idle at around 49-50C once the heating has been on a while. Fan a 31% is lost in the background noise from the other slow 120mm fans in an Antec P-180. Seems to top out around 75C so not all bad.

I did reseat with AS5 and gained a few degrees.

When I tried with ATI tool the card soon heats up, setting the fan speed a little lower just seemed to result in similar fan speeds but with the card hotter.

Mine seems to hover around 46c and 70 under load. My case (antec 900) is pretty good at keeping everything cool though.

Rivatuner shows the fans at 25-26%?

Might have to try ATITool again came up with an error last time I tried with vista and wouldn’t work.

Might have a go at reducing the 2d core speeds to bring the temp down is that easy enough to do?

On a tangent (to oc'ing), I got a bit of a chock earlier - no sounds coming from my PC since the 2900 was installed! Nothing.

I was just about ot go into a late night melt down about "fixing" my pc, wqs it the psu, does the ATi software interfere in some way, etc...

The software does interfere in a fashion, it replaced the normal Realtek thing as the output with "ATi HD Audio rear output". Luckily, I realised this just before tearing the computer apart. Just switched back to Realtek and all is normal.

But what is that ATi HD rear output? Does it mean if I hook my pc up tp my TV via the HDMI adapter that audio will go across as well? I thought DVI was video only?

Confused.

Confused.

DVI is video however HDMI spec requires audio to be routed through the cable so has to be passed through spare pins in the DVI and to be available when you plug in the DVI - HDMI converter.

So, the graphics card is pushing audio through the HDMI cable. But where is the audio processed? If I plug my PC in via HDMI into my AV receiver and on to my TV what kind of audia will I get? Will it be 5.1 (min)? Or,would I still be better off plugging the audio in seperately via the optical connection?

Also, has any one tried plugging in to a 1080p HDTV? what kind of performance does the card give at 1920x1080? I haven't tried yet.

It turns out its not stable or my PSU is holding me back. From what I've tested 800Mhz core and 950Mhz memory appears to be stable.

A bit more testing. ATI Tool artifact scanned for ONE hour.

800Mhz core and 1000Mhz memory.

How log do you test for in ATI Tool?

Not that long, just play your games (main purpose for the machine, right?) as normal and watch for artifacts.

At that clock my 12v on PSU drops to 11.55v, which surely isn't good. Maybe my PSU isn't up to the job at high clock speed....
