headphones purly for gameing

IMO they are **** for the money.

End of the matter, I've voiced my opinion, wrong or right. I've never been involved in spats on these forums before, and I don't intend start either.

For a budget of around £50 with mic i would deffinately recommend Beyerdynamic DT 234 pro.

I have the HD555s too, they are decent although at £70 I would hope so. Not a great deal better than some £20-30 Panasonic/Technics ones I've had in the past, though.

To be honest I've been more impressed by the build/comfort than anything - I can wear them for hours without my ears hurting like they do with some cans.

If you want something really outstanding then you probably need to push the boat out and get a higher end model if you are going down the Sennheiser route. As I said, they are good but I wasn't blown away by the audio quality like I was expecting.

I didn't get an answer in the Sound forums, so I'll ask here.
Anyone know of a good EXTERNAL soundcard at all?
The creative one on OcUK seems more like an headphone amp than a Soundcard.

Got myself a pair od Senheisser HD595's, but onboard doesnt do them justice

Forgot to say I have an XFi Xtreme sound card!

Slightly off topic does anyone have a set of PC160??

What are they like?

I went down this route once before. Being fed up with the quality of the consumer level offerings. In the end, i went for a set of Sennheiser HMD-280-Pro's and got the XLR to 3.5mm jack fitted by a company in Bradford.
Obviously the sound quality was great, the problem was that the Mic needed a pre-amp to work properly (they advised that it shouldn't) and I have way too much stuff plugged in around here as it is.
Anyway, if you want the best, you are looking at Studio level kit with a proper MIC on there, just don't expect to run it off a sound card alone.

If anyone else here has an alternative I would be happy to hear it, as im still looking for something better than the Medusas.

One other note, imho you want OPEN backed cans for use with a MIC, otherwise you muffle the sound of your own voice which makes it difficult to place how loud you are talking...

yes to this ^^

before i bought some closed cans, i never thought of this, but it really does take some getting used to if you use you mic a lot, you cant really hear yourself that well and makes it difficult to think of what your trying to say :P
