Headphones

Clearly you've never listened to anything more than £40 headphones.

Although I agree with this sentiment, if you check around you can occasionally see bargains for sale. I have seen both HD555 and DR150 for sale for £40 so you can indeed get great headphones for £40 ;)

I live in the UK bargains do not come here often.

Lol, can't argue with that. :p

Speaking of bargains in the UK, one site had the Goldring DR150 on sale at £1.74 more than their usual retail price. :p

Goldring NS1000 can be had for £50 currently, dunno how long that will last though.

I think the discount offer has now expired if we are thinking of the same place. Which would be better, the DR150 or NS1000?

Nope, not a discountcode, proper price on the screen, no code needed. I ordered a pair last night for £50 just for the hell of it even though I already have DR-150's ;)

Oh to which is better, that depends.

DR-150 are open
NS1000 are closed and have noise cancelling.

Supposedly the NS1000 are better (I can tell you tomorrow) but normally cheapest DR-150 are £70 and NS1000 are £100 so since the NS1000 are only £50 atm, no point paying £20 extra for the DR-150 IMO.

Problem is that i have some good closed headphones at the moment, they sound excellent, the problem is that i cant wear them for more than 30minutes as my ears get boiling hot.

Drop me a mail to my trust about the DR150s, as i get paid on friday ;)

ive just ordered the NS1000 for £50, hopefully they will turn up friday/saturday and then i can have a proper play with them...

big upgrade from the Speedlink Medusa 5.1s ? :D

Any chance of a link to the ns1000 for that price? if not maybe a hint lol. I have tried googling but I only get 70 quid upwards.

Guest2, I will do that after testing. Still not sure until then which one I will be keeping.

Beep, I can't do that, not even hint. I don't want a holiday :(

I ordered the NS1000's too. I'm using Speedlink Medusas atm and they are not good for music... I'm not even an audiophile, and they're the best headphones I have, but I can sense they're just... not good in terms of sound quality.

I'll still use the mic on it though, it's great.

It was hard to choose between NS1000 and DR150. Originally I was going to get the Senheisser 555, but chose the Goldrings instead, and the NS1000 for its noise cancelling capability.

I also bought an amp for it on Uriels reccommendation.

I am just hoping this performs better than my Medusas... It's probably going to be the last thing I buy in a long while.

They will be better. :)

Something aimed at gaming isn't usually great for music as well at the sound reproduction end. An example is my Creative T6100 speakers, fantastic for gaming and films, poor for music. Granted they are not headphones, but like the Medusa's they are aimed at gamers. Goldring's main purpose is music.

Most music cans are also good for gaming.

Soundstaging can be an issue though. Some soundstage enhancements on headphones can mess with positional and ambient audio. Things like angled drivers, reflectors etc can make a difference.

As mentioned a few times before I generally recommend different headphones to pair with an X-fi than I would with a Xonar because of the way their respective headphone virtualisation works.
