Heart attack, who to inform?

Sorry to hear this and wishing you a speedy recovery.

If you can't drive then will your employer offer you an office based job or .... ?

My brother inlaw used to drive buses for London Transport and he had some medical complications which meant that he was no longer allowed to drive a bus so they offered him an office based job which he hated. He then ended up taking early retirement.

Get well soon, I've always enjoyed your posts in Motors, specifically ones in the what's your mpg thread :)

Nice to see all the support from everyone. Health problems really put everything else into perspective. All the best.

STEMI = heart attack visible on your ecg tracings
non STEMI = heart attack not necessarily with the classic ecg changes but with blood tests elevated for heart attack (cardiac troponin levels)

if you have a dye test (cardiac cath/angio) you can drive in a week, otherwise a month. you don't need to inform dvla about driving your own car, but do need to inform them about the hgv side of things

With prompt treatment the prognosis should be good, your HGV licence may be suspended for a while but once you recover a myocardial perfusion scan should give them the information on any lasting damage to your heart. If you show good coronary blood flow on the scan you can then get your HGV status back.

Just thought I'd update that despite a second one whilst in Hospital, I'm now home after a 9day stay at the University hospital of north Staffordshire.
I was in the Cardiac Care Unit, received wonderful care and attention, I have been left with myocarditis and pericarditis - inflammation of the heart muscle and the area around the heart as a result, I feel about 20years older but very much happy to be alive!!
I'm off work for at least 12 weeks at a guess, and am most likely going to change jobs - the early starts, long hours and irregular hours have been a contributing factor I'm told.
I'll be speaking to the DVLA this week to see when I can drive my car again, tbh, if I never drive a truck again, it'll be no loss.

The experience I've had and seeing how quickly life is taken away whilst staying in a cardiac unit has completely changed my outlook on what's important and what's not.

Again, I would like to thank you all for the comments and support in this thread, it's lovely to see that I seem popular!! :o :D

What a great community, I'm very glad to still be here to be part of it!

Thank you all. :)

What a fantastic mindset to take away from a horrible situation. All the best in whatever you choose to turn your hand to.

Not sure how i missed this thread first time round, but wow, what a life changer. All the very best for your speedy recovery, what a fantastic positive attitude you seem to have kept :)

Glad to hear you are back home and on the mend...:)

I've spent my fair share of time being cared for in UHNS Cardiac unit; I share you view of being well looked after. Likewise once you've spent a few days there you start to realise what really is important in life and just how lucky you are to still be here. Also how hard the doctors and nurses work to make sure you stay that way.

Hope you continue to recover and make the best of your second chance.
