Helldivers 2

Played a bit last night after the patch, and it was great fun. We were starting to get a little ****** off with all the game bugs and rocket devastators spamming us constantly. This patch has really sorted the worst of that.

We usually play difficulty 9-10, sometimes drop to 8 if it's getting a little frustrating due to the said devastators pre patch, but makes it more fun on the higher difficulties now.

Noticed stalkers make a predator growling noise now, which I thought was pretty cool. Looking forward to hearing the sounds they have lined up for bile titans and hulks which are currently pretty stealth and able to creep up behind you silently, and have been since the game released. That's at the very bottom of the patch notes as a high priority

Played a bit yesterday and on Tuesday and gotta say 'We're back' does feel appropriate; its not perfect, but the game definately feels more fun than it has done for a while.
Given this was the '30 day patch', I'm pretty excited now to see what the 60 day patch looks like, if they fix and buff more stuff. They need to keep to this mentality of tweak but don't nerf into the ground, this ISNT a PVP game.
Player numbers seem to indicate good excitement over this update too:

According to Steam Charts,
Avg players July: 23928
Avg players August: 24574
Last 30 days avg: 17932
Players right now: 49973, with a 24 hour peak of 55000

Considering we're middle of the week too, if numbers continue like this into the weekend, it looks like a decent number of people are returning, we are back to the sort of numbers we were seeing back in May-June.

Honestly, if Sony could just stop being arrogant ***holes and open the game back up to non-PSN countries, I could easily see the number doubling. They've done a very good shooting a potential GOTY in the foot with thier mishandling, not ignoring the mistakes Arrowhead have made.

I'm like the changes they've made but since the patch the game is more unstable for me. Barely ever crash before the patch but since patch I've played 3 rounds and crashed to desktop each game. First two it crashed to desktop when exiting a round and third time was just random CTD during gameplay.

I've had 2 crashes since the new patch, game freezes then closes to desktop

I feel like I get more bugs now than release. The problem is these bugs stop the mission from progressing so you lost a lot of time.

- Drilling missions - the drill or bomb screens not working
- Laptops/data pads dropped on ground and can't pick up

Seems to happen one game in 5

Heard the game broke 100K players this weekend. I think that is a definitive 'We're back!' :)

Hopefully they'll have some more crash fixes and love in the 60 day patch. I have to admit I'm not seeing much in the way of instability, touch wood, but I'd be lying through my teeth if I said I knew the game was 100% stable.

I did see a rumour that Arrowhead are recruiting an engine specialist to look at moving them to Unreal Engine, as the current engine has been dead for a number of years now; albeit I doubt they'd upgrade HD2 mid life cycle, but maybe they'll make Helldivers 3 on it in a number of years, once they've worked out how to bring across workloads and concepts they'd managed to work into the current engine.

Edit:
In fact a picture tells 1000 words:

Genuinely feels great to play - absolutely loving the fireworks of the G10 Incendary and the noises, the rockets, Spears, heavy machine gun fire....it just feels so much more cinematic and satisfying to play now.

That being said, it's noticably easier. I used to struggle on 8-9, so used to stick to 7 which felt balanced, but have been playing 9 and not really struggling at all. I think it's because weapons are so effective now against the heavy stuff you tend to smash though it. I'm not sure what the fix is here, they *may* have overdone the damage some of the weapons do.

Is anyone finding that its not remembering your aim preference's?

When I start out the mission it does but if I die and then collect my dropped weapon it does not.

I have the options enabled to remember per weapon but does not seem to matter
