Helldivers 2

Erf, servers at capacity again. Little point giving 50% increased exp if you can't actually get into the game to take advantage!

Yeah ended up caving and buying it and now can't even log on

Doesn't bode well considering I'm not sure it will even work with the reported crashes on AMD cards...

So yesterday it was stuck in windowed mode and crashed the PC. Today its just a black screen. I've tried renaming the config files, that fixed it yesterday but no joy today. Real shame as its good fun but this is annoying.

edit: running as admin fixed it. Servers full though

Hmm, I was toying with the idea of buying this but may be best to wait, particularly with my AMD card.

The performance looks poor, saw a benchmark where my card gets 65 FPS where the 3080 is around 86 FPS, a far larger delta than we typically see between the two. I wonder if a driver could improve performance? I think it's bad on a similar engine to Darktide and the difference between comparative AMD/Nvidia cards isn't quite so big in that game so here's hoping.

You should be getting more than that on it I'm sure, what resolution though? That's kinda important.

@humbug He's got a similar card to you - what FPS are you getting? I thought it was way higher than 65?

With everything manually set to maximum 1440P about 70+, its hard to know the avrages but its around 70 to 100.

Server issues were very unexpected. Helldivers 1 had a maximum player count of less than 15k at its peak. This has been blown out of the water by the sequel and 'just add more servers' isn't as easy as it sounds as there will be calls to various databases and other servers every time someone logs in and plays. All those systems and connections need beefed up to deal with 20x the number of expected requests.

Just watched some footage of this game and it does look quite good.

Can you play solo or is a group game only with either friends or randoms?

Do you need to collect gear for better stats etc or do you just pick your class and jump in to a game?

Either

You collect items in mission, that you need to extract with, that you can use to upgrade stuff. You get medals for completing missions too that you can buy new stuff.

Be aware that solo is pretty hard. I think it's designed for groups. I'm still sticking with solo for the minute though
Yeah, looking at the game footage sometimes you have to defend off waves etc.

How comes your playing solo over random\groups?

Mainly time. I can't be tied down to specific times, only an hour here or there. I want to make my mistakes/learning on my own terms to begin with.

When I know I'll have enough time to play for a few hours then I'll jump on with friends cba with randoms

One of the reasons Halo was so successful was the combat loop. Weapons felt meaty and the feedback from headshots and grenade kills was dopamine. Each skirmish played out like a mini tactical battle.

This has nailed that feeling. I'd highly recommend playing with the dual sense controller. Haptic/vibration feedback adds to the immersion.
