Helldivers 2

You can play it in 30-40 minute blasts (the time it takes to generally complete one mission), the match making is pretty good to be fair you'll jump in with a group of three other players.
You don't have to use comms if you don't want to, the game has multiple systems for marking enemies and communicating things with your team mates without needed to chat.

I find the Americans you run into later in the evening to be quite entertaining most of the time and you can mute them if they get too American.

You've literally asked the same question I came here to ask :) I've seen a lot about this game and it looks cool. Just wasn't sure if it's a game for casual gamers - or gamers where game time is at a simlar premium!
The only thing I would say is that the game isn't pausable. Your never really in a spot you can just hide either due to the AI finding you. So if you can sit and play for 20-30 mins. Great. Otherwise if you have to vanish suddenly for reasons it becomes a bit tricky.

Easier difficulties 1-2 can be done as a 5-15 minute session, especially solo.
I'd say 2-4 you can do solo as well when your used to it and taking your time (If you have the time.)

Anything higher and you should start squadding up. IMO.

I may not have kids, but my wife has been rather ill for while recently so between her and the dogs i needed to slow down and stop playing this for games i could pause as soon as I was needed for something.

That aside if you can find the time for a quick game its fairly easy to drop in for 20-30 minute sessions with randomers.

Lets hope this sorts all the crashes people have been getting!

Damn, looks like I still won't be fighting bugs - the bots are back

Funny in a way to see my Steam friends list and see a bunch of people "Fighting Automatons" who yesterday were a bit unhappy with the game and talking of dropping it to play other stuff. Hopefully this is the dev's reading the room and reacting accordingly - even if it was interesting narrative wise.

EDIT: Though from the animation on the map it appears more like a planned event rather than something they've pushed in in response to player reactions.

Playing overnight I've been on a few teams with US players who are off their heads on something, but it is also pretty hilarious - most of them act the fool a bit but pretty chill and don't go too silly with it to the point it messes everything up i.e. last night there was some team killing banter going on but not at the expense of the reinforcement budget (we were well in control).

This game any good playing solo? Don’t really have a group that wants to play this game but everyone seems to be raving about it

I'd definitely say it's a planned event. I think they probably have the next few months mapped out, perhaps even leading up to a new race or a coordinated attack from bugs & bots.

Not really.

At the lower levels you can solo. But it's not really viable solo at the mid-high levels unless you're really diehard. You'll see vids of people solo'ing the top difficulties to show it can be done. But for most players, nope.

I would go as far as to say that unless you have a group of friends to play with, your game enjoyment could be very variable if you only play with randoms. For every game where you get lucky and play with some nice random people, there's another game waiting round the corner with a team killer (friendly fire is very much a thing in this game) or an idiot host who boots people for no good reason on the extraction pad.

They only recently fixed the Friends system, so perhaps things will slowly improve when there's a bit more control over over who you group with. But there needs to be a functional blocking system too.

Depends what kind of challenge you like I guess.

I can do helldive solo, at least against bugs, not sure against bots - but personally don't think the effort and time required to do it is a good pay off - the game is much more enjoyable played with other people. A lot of time is spent kiting off, or avoiding, the patrols, etc. to give yourself room to do things in and trying to understand lots of obscure mechanics and/or glitches in the game i.e. supposedly Stalker damage zones are messed up and some parts of them don't take intended proper damage from some weapons unless shooting them in certain areas like the head.

Once you get to around level 20 onwards then up to hard difficulty is pretty much a breeze solo and extreme isn't too bad. Levels 7, 8 and 9 need a certain mindset and quite a but of experience of the game.

This game sometimes... I just fought one charger, and turned around and another just came out of nowhere and shoved me sideways followed by another which ran straight at me - both just appeared out of thin air the moment my camera angle was just off where they must have spawned in and definitely not part of any kind of normal patrol mechanics, etc. not sure if glitched or cheap programming.

Hopefully not speaking too soon but so far not getting crashes with this patch... so far...

EDIT: Game is still locking up on exit quite often forcing having to kill the process - but played all night without any crashes during gameplay.

EDIT2: Spoke too soon - threw an orbital railgun stratagem and instantly I let go, dunno if coincidence, game just locked up for 2 seconds then exit to desktop.

Played for an hour and a half today so far no crashes.

Not had the crash on shutting down the game either but only played the once since the update yesterday.

Weirdly I played most of the night without incident, then straight after posting it has crashed multiple times within a short period :( (mostly seems to happen now if I reinforce for someone and then throw down a stratagem in quick succession).

Anyone using the spear?

I tried it last night and it seemed pretty potent, but it seems a bit flakey getting a lock - although I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong,
