Help building a PC.

I see. No, I never added an ssd according to my wife.
jobs and easy one then:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £75.32 (includes delivery: £0.00)

remove the current ram and install the new ones
plug in the ssd (also specced a sata data cable that you'll need, but the power supply should have extra power connectors so no need to buy any extra power splitters/cable)
you'll need to reinstall windows to the ssd and use the ssd as the main drive with windows and all other programs, the current 1tb hard drive can then be your storage drive

ps: i have not specced a m.2 ssd as i don't know if your dell motherboard supports this. all motherboards have more sata ports, so the specced ssd is a slot in, as far as a hardware upgrade is concerned (you'll still need to do the relevant software changes listed)

I do not recommend this. Clone the old drive to the new one then set the old one aside (in an anti-static bag), just in case. Some drives come with cloning software.

Thanks for the advice. To be honest, not exactly sure what this means but will the drive come with instructions for this. Thank you

Hi. Thanks so much for the list and advice. Would I be able to find out how to do this from Tom's guide I believe you mentioned when I 1st posted about building a PC?

Do you actually sell the parts on this site?

no i don't lol, i'm just a forum member

replacing ram:

installing ssd:
Oh haha. Does this forum sell the parts then? If it does that is ideal to have a space that has all you guys and girls giving great advice and the forum supplying the products.

Thanks as well for the video links. You are so generous with your time.

there's a forum members market for preowned parts but you don't have access to it :P
this forum is owned and run by overclockers uk, hence why all parts linked are to the ocuk web shop

the parts link will link directly to the item on the ocuk website:

What it means is that instead of reinstalling everything you make the new drive a copy of the old drive (which is slightly different from copying all the files over) and then remove the old drive so that when you restart the PC it will use the new drive and everything drive related will seem very much faster.

The other benefit of this is that if you remove the old HDD and put it somewhere safe you have a backup if something goes wrong.
