Help building a PC.

The thing Is, it's meant to be a 700 pound pc. Now how does it compare at that cost

I agree, and comparing it again a PC you buy prebuilt for £700 it's acceptable - but clearly you'd get more for your £700 if you built from components. It really should needs a stronger GPU (GTX1050 maybe), the SSD needs to come as standard then I think it'd be good at that price point. If you're excluding discounts, then I find it compares okay with pre-built systems from the major manufacturers at £700 such as:

Lenovo IdeaCentre 720-18 Ryzen 5 / 2GB / 2TB / RX550 £749.99
HP Pavilion 570-p056na I5-7400 / 8GB / 128 SSD / Radeon R5 435 £699
PC Specialist Vortex Minerva FX4300 / 8GB / 1 TB / GTX 1050Ti £699

@Mutleyracers my go to sites are usually anandtech (and they have a nifty section called bench where you can compare different parts) and tom's hardware. hardware unboxed and gamers nexus on youtube are pretty decent too

Tamzzy, this is great. When I get a bit of time I shall look those up. I have actually come across toms hardware before.

I never got along with PC'S when I was in my late teens. Always preferred a console. So I need to make up for lost time. Which is hard to do with 2 weans

So I've started the upgrade process. Out with the 1TB 7,200 drive and in with a Samsung EVO 250 GB NVME, RAM upgrade to 16GB. Next month the r7 and throwing in a 1060.

please do check the brand/wattage of the power supply. you don't really want one to blow up (literally) and wreck the computer

hi ultralaser, have you upgraded your system completely yet then and what are your thoughts on it?

Cheers Lee

for some reason I am not getting notifications when posts come in any more?

Hi

I am looking for advice on building a PC for my office. None of it will be for gaming as most people spec. It will be for invoicing, photo shop, sketch book and streaming movies and net service tv. Could anyone recommend me some components.

Oh, I have never built a PC before. Do the parts come with instructions and would a novice be able to build one.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Regards Lee
Hi. I hope you are all well. I wrote the post above in 2017 (cannot belive where time has gone)and have really enjoyed the pc. However, I never did get around to upgrading it and now I definitely need it to be faster and have a lot more storage. You were all extremely helpful and I was wondering if you could give me some advice on what I could be upgrading this with.

Thanks again.

Regards Lee

You were all so helpful back then and I was wondering if someone could give me advice on the best parts to update this? Any

You might be better off starting a new thread and restating your usage, requirements, budget, etc, because a lot of the important details will be buried in a 5 page thread and I can't speak for everybody, but that's way too confusing for me to attempt.

Thanks for letting me know. Can I somehow link the info to what I actually purchased?

i know what you purchased, it's a prebuilt dell with a ryzen 1400 + radeon rx560
either way, it's served its life and you'll now want a full new build...just post a new thread telling us your budget and what you want the computer to do (eg: gaming 100% or with work, and what kind of work)
are you still keen for a prebuilt or you want to DIY this time?

Hi Tamzzy. It was actually your advice that swayed me to buy the PC. Again, thanks for this. We have really enjoyed using it.

Are you saying I actually just need to buy a new PC/Build?

We only use it for storing videos, photos, working from home and watching netflix etc. Mainly office work though.

Regards Lee

@Mutleyracers yes i remember :D

tbh, from what you listed, it doesn't sound like you need a new pc tbh. you can just upgrade the storage and/or ram
depending on the power supply, you could add a new graphics card as well (probably less important than the storage/ram)
