Help - DID just break my pc???

OK my keyboard wasn't working to be able to enter the bios......so i had to turn off.....

I then plug in the serial Keyboard and now it wouldn't get me to the same screen again!!! explain that ?????

You need to restart the system if you've plugged in a new keyboard.

Unfortunately I've got to go out now.

I'll check back later and see if you're still around.

I managed to get into the bios...

tried to boot the HDD - it went to a very quick bsod and then reset itself....

I tried getting in the bios again ... edited HDD from IDE TO AHCP or w/e it is. Frozen on the boot menu now......

I would just point out that I was in the bios at one point and it froze on me........weird...

I just managed to get into the bios again I set primary boot drive to DVD now......tried to install windows - it only got as far as "windows is loading files...." and it's frozen not more than a 10th of the big silver bar...........

starting to look like a faulty motherboard or CPU?

or possibly the CPU Cooler's seating?

Whenever I change the tightness of the cooler by twisting the pins it seems to waken it up .......it has frozen again on the windows logo where it says "starting windows" just after it moved the grey bar across the screen.......

or possibly the HDD from all the powering on and off?

I think I'm on to a winner here..

I unscrewed the CPU cooler so it was very loose and then rescrewed it slowly diagnonally so its got even contact...but NOT TOO tight..just before it feels as it gets firm... it's now Progressing fine.... installing windows as we speak - 56% expanding windows ... furthest its gotten yet.. so with any luck this was the problem and I just fixed it and its now stable. ... I HOPE

so perhaps it was overheating due to being seated slighly undistributed in pressure contact ?? the monitor temps in bios said it was about 33 degrees celsius though so sounds weird if thats was the problem...

Currently installing all my drivers.... looking good.....

Is there actually any benefit in overclocking these days for gaming?? it's all in the GPU afterall.... how many frames can you expect to gain?

I'm glad you seem to be getting somewhere without me.

Overtightening the CPU cooler can warp the motherboard which can result in the RAM not working properly.

I understand Corsair have removed the slots from the screws now so that they can only be finger tightened. Too many people must have been overdoing it with a screwdriver.

As far as overclocking goes then some games are CPU dependant so they benefit. Other games it won't make any difference.

Keep us updated and I'll check back and see how you're getting on.

I left the computer on overnight, I come back down stairs this morning .... and my display has disappeared... i force reboot and display still missing .... god dam it.

Are you sure it just hadn't gone into sleep mode?

You'll find this in the power options.

Also the HDD will have spun down after a certain amount of time unless you've changed this in the power settings.

It can take quite a few seconds for the HDD to spin up and the PC to wake from sleep mode.

I'm not sure why you stll don't have a display.

positive i've seen it do that when it was working on day1.....

This is really pointing towards the CPU/cooler ... Whenever I adjust the pins on the cooler it might get a display back..... this time I saw the boot screen but then windows screen didn't appear and it stayed on a black screen.

One thing I am concerned about is if the contact of the thermal paste has been ruined by me unscrewing the CPU cooler too much and rescrewing it..... shall I re-apply thermal paste you reckon??

what do the red letters and numbers mean on the motherboard? wen it doesn't work sometimes it says 00.....struggling to get a display right now .......

Does this maybe suggest the processor is broke??

According to the user manual code 00 isn't used but if that's all it shows then you're not getting far through the post process. It should count up through a series of codes.

If you think it's the CPU cooler causing the problem then might I suggest that if you have the Intel stock cooler you disconnect the H80 for now and use that.

If you are removing the cooler then while you're at it carefully remove the CPU and check there aren't any bent pins in the CPU socket.

The pins are at various angles but they should all appear uniform:

Gonna try see if I can get through another windows install as I basically stood the case up and rescrewed it - the tightness of the screws seems to give it a very different security as when the case is stood up the weight will fall downwards... It tried to load windows but its frozen.... so myabe my windows is now corrupt and I need to re-install.

if that fails I'll try what you suggested above.

Urg I got into the bios again..... exited ..... tried to load windows.... it wanted to some repair mode thing..... it scanned for problems but froze (mouse aswell), but power lights still on them) whilst searching.......... I don't know if this is because of hardware stability or because windows is borked because of all the shutdowns

RITE OK maybe it could be this..

on the motherboard..... there are some holes which don't have screws in.......BUT I'm sure I used all the screws that came with the motherboard itself.....It's probably shorting or something?

anyone able to get a picture of the board where all the screws are and the number of screws?
