I think this could be a case of a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous.
Anyhow I might as well post my spec up first
E6600
Zelman CNPS9500-AT Aero Flower
2gb Geil PC6400C4 800MHz DDR2 (I know this ram can be problematic)
Gigabyte DS4
I’ve had a read through a few guides and decided to try to take my E6600 to 3.2GHz. Anyhow at first I set the processor to 1.45 volts and it wouldn’t even post. Then I set it to 1.487 and the PC seemed to be fine it booted into windows it was reasonably cool until I tried to run orthos to stress test it. It lasted about a second before it threw up an error.
I’ve currently got my processor set to 8x400 @ 1.487volts and my memory set to 4-4-4-12 @ +0.3volts which I think is 2.1volts. I’ve tried setting the chip to 1.5volts it still threw up an error in orthos so I took the voltage back a bit as I’ve read 1.5 is about the limit for air cooling there was no point in leaving it that high if it is making no difference. I also tried my ram at 5-5-5-15 to no avail so I’ve set it back to 4-4-4-12.
Now me being a noob an all I’ve set my bios to what I thought was correct but it could be all completely wrong for all I know. So I was wondering if you guys could have a look over it to see if there’s anything I’ve missed
Rather than cluttering the forum up with loads of pictures I’ve put them in my web space below
