Help! I don't want to get addicted.

Indeed. It does seem a bit odd when you're with people who keep lighting up whilst telling you how it's "horrible" and they only do it because they're "addicted." I appreciate this is the case with some people, but I've heard those words from people who constantly have a fag hanging out their mouth throughout the course of the evening.

I'm sorry it took so something so horrible but glad you managed to quit. :)

You practically sound proud of it? Oh, and I still think you're stupid for it :p

hehe well if it makes you feel better I'm in my room so I'm not harming anyone else. Anyway I'm 18 so I still have a lot to learn in life :D

Again, nothing to do with other people! Still - stupid, and 18 is plenty old enough to know better.

Yep, but I've enjoyed it.

Funnily enough most of the people I know who have Cigars are doctors :p

So?

Oh and I'm glad to see we agree you are stupid :)

Yep, but I've promised myeslf I will only do it now and again, not become an addict. Cigars are less addictive anyway.

You could say that about a lot of social activities tbh. Drinking, letching, tomfoolery etc are all part of gaining acceptance within certain social circles.

Indeed.

The very foundation for my people drink Ales because they enjoy it, not to get drunk argument.

You are ignoring all I have said even though so far you have agreed with everything!

I haven't ignored you. I agree with what you're saying, but I enjoy it and that's that! :o

OK so just because your dad likes the odd cigar (no capitalisation, by the way), does not make them good for you.

Haha. My dad hates all forms of smoking. He has about one cigar a year, maybe two.

Inexperienced, yes. However, I'm still confident I can enjoy them without getting addicted. Time will tell.

wow, thats quite expensive for one, but i suppose its ok if you have them in moderation.

They last for ages though. It's probably better value than a pack of fags.

No. Drinking is nothing like smoking cigarettes, eating is nothing like smoking cigarettes.

Smoking cigars is very much like smoking cigarettes, both in name and nature.

Your life, do as you please. I just don't understand the mentality of coming on an internet forum and bragging about it like it's cool. Not only that but trying to tell people it's not unhealthy, addictive, etc.

I gave you a link saying the complete opposite and could give you a thousand more. These are from medical experts, etc with reasearch to back them up.

Oh no! You actually smoke cigars, you are an expert!

There has been an increase in cigar smoking since 1993 particularly in the 18 to 44 age group. If you do not inhale the tobacco smoke it will not get to the lungs in the same quantities as cigarette smokers so the incident of lung cancer is less. You are still three times more likely to get lung cancer than a non-smoker. Cigar smokers who previously smoked cigarettes are more likely to inhale and have an 11 times greater risk than non smokers. Cigar smokers have an increase risk of death from cancers of the lip, tongue, throat, oesophagus, mouth, larynx, and also cancers of the pancreas and bladder.

So whilst cigar smoking is less dangerous, it is still harmful.

Look, it all depends on how you like your cancer.

If you like it in your lungs then you smoke fags.
If you prefer it in your mouth then cigars.

Well I'm not addicted as I haven't smoked one since I started this thread 2-3 nights ago.

I tried one cigar last night and see it as something to enjoy now and again. I won't buy another one for some time now.

So thanks, but I know the difference between addiction and enjoyment.

Yes you will become addicted to it... then you will Enjoy it - because your addicted and you need it and convince yourself you enjoy it !

Just accept people enjoy it for christ sake. Some people find it relaxing. No one is doubting the health risks, but statements like that are ridiculous.

I didn't mention the health risks did i ?

I am just saying it how it is - have you ever Smoked properly?

I actually had another thread about a month back when I got back from Cornwall. I smoked at least half a pack a night for a week and when I got home I had absolutely no desire to go out and buy some more. What do you mean "properly" ? the fact you inhale cigarettes but not cigars?

Ak!ta said:
I mean Smoking for a prolonged period of time, and a substantial amount. ie, a Smoker?

No.

But the thing is people on here are trying to tell me I'm addicted after smoking very few.

This thread is getting silly now. Some people need to accept that others enjoy smoking because at the end of the day, it is relaxing. There is a huge difference between smoking now and again to enjoy, and becoming addicted.

what is there to enjoy? you telling me the taste of a cigarette is nice? i don't think so. the smell of one? no. what is it you are enjoying?

as i said above, you are enjoying your fix of nicotine and you don't even know it yet.

People enjoy the relaxation of it.

I don't even know it yet? I haven't touched a cigarette now for about 3 days.
