Help: Kittens!

Hey guys,

Just updating with a video... thought that you might want to see their progress I'm really happy with them... I didn't want to keep updating the thread with small updates :)

They are around 5 weeks old now and getting very nosey about their surroundings. I have picked one up the mother did a little growl but nothing else... I'm also stroking them which isn't an issue for me. Mother also ate for the first time in front of me as well :D

In the next few days I'm going to get a friend to hold one so they get use to other people that isn't me.... lets see how that goes :)

When do you think they will be ready?

Can't wait to have one now.

They are still taking milk off their mother at the moment mate... they are starting to get interested in her cat food but just small little smells then back to pouncing on each other :)

I promise to let you and TrixiBuG know as soon as they are ready mate. I will take a video of me holding one tonight :D

Kittens are amazing, i used to hate cats growing up only because i was allergic to them, now i have a cat of my own ( a lilac point siamese ) i love her, plus i don't have a reaction arround her, compared to other non siamese cats.

We're getting another cat thats due in 4 months, a seal point siamese, cant wait, its nice to hear the kittens are doing good, been following this thread since the start :)

The should ideally be staying with mum till 12 weeks. That means they can be fully vaccinated before going to you so less risk of them picking up infection. They'll also be better socialised at 12, mum will have taught them better manners.

Loki only had one vaccination before coming to me, he now has a constantly runny nose despite having his 2nd vaccination when I got him. I think my current cat may have been a typhoid kitty. He now has flare ups whenever he gets stressed.

Mine didn't have any vacc's when I got them from the rescue place. I had a discount with the vets due to them being rescued. Dave was 12 weeks and Lola was 9 weeks (which is the earliest they'd let them go)

:)

By the way - despite what people might think, cows milk is not good for cats but goats milk okay. Especially do not feed kittens cows milk when they start feeding. This is the advice given by a vet when we had an unexpected litter of kittens from one of the 'male' cats!!

How did I miss this thread? Stelly sir, take a bow. Faith in humanity restored :)

Are you giving all kittens away? Would be ace if you could keep them at least in pairs so they have a companion during the day in their new forever home :)

Interestingly, the cat charity we got our two from would only home kittens in pairs. I think so that they didn't split them up completely and they had company with each other. These are my first cats so I've no idea if other charities do this. Even though cats are a solitary species, they do socialise with others and our two spend a lot of time together.

On a side note - once the kittens have been re-homed, what are your plans for the mother?

Argh... okay but of an urgent update...

Basically I went in last night and everything was fine she was there with the kittens all good and happy. I picked one up and had a stroke she didn't make a noise and seemed happy for me to do it.

Come in this morning and she isn't there she has ate only a little food when its normally ate it all... the dish is normally clean. She has not touched her water or litter tray either... I'm really worried at this point as she has never done this before.

and I thought that I had escape proofed the garage... Kittens are fine though seem good... I'm really worried though :(

Have you tried calling her, or shaking some biscuits to see if that will attract her?

Hope she's back soon, maybe ring the cat rescue place to check how long the kittens can be safely left without mum/food :)
