Hey All,

I have been feeding a stray for a while now... she is learning to trust me but recently (Friday night) decided to have kittens in our garage.

I have tried calling the RSPCA about it but they will not do anything about them as they are not injured or needing help :\

Any ideas what I should do? Just keep feeding the mother and hope she feeds the kittens? Hand rear the kittens? I do not have a clue. I have a couple of pics:

I'm really totally clueless on this.

Leave as much good as she will eat down. Preferably a high quality, grain free wet food but anything is better than nothing. I think kitten food his higher in nutrients for a lactating mother if its a true kitten food.

Try and keep where she is warm and comfortable. Moving them is probably a bad idea.

Have you seen her? Is she feeding the regularly? Does she look OK?

If the kittens survive. What are your plans? Are you going to keep her and the kittens?

I didnt want to move them either, didnt want my smell on them and putting the mother off...

I saw her Friday night and then again tonight and I put some tuna down for her as well... she looked really fine... smaller but fine :) very cautious about going into the garage but I'm guessing this is because she wants to make sure that the Kittens are okay?

Feeding I'm not sure... she will not go in the garage with me in there... she waits untill I close the door then goes in...

The garage is not too bad at the moment, they survived last night and it was cold last night but I didnt know she was going to have them last night.

Is it worth me getting this Kitten food??

I think that the fact that she had the kittens in the garage shows that she feels protected and fine there right?

We have a cat (from the cats protection league), so I'm pretty sure I know what they look like.

All I'm seeing in those pictures though is a lot of foam and a black lump, are there really animals there?

Yup.

I didnt want to get too close to them at the time... might try and get better ones when I check up on them tomorrow.

Hey guys,

Went in this morning to see how things were I fed her again and she was in there with the kittens just looking at me. She ate all the tuna and dry food and was looking good. It is the first time she has sat in the garage and not been a little nervous when I'm in there.

I'm relieved that she is looking after the kittens as it is the first time that I have seen her with them but she looks fit and healthy. I'm going in there just twice a day to feed her and make sure she has water, I don't want to go in too much and really upset her and the kittens.

The above is also the reason that I didn't take pics as I didn't want to alarm her with a flash or anything and her to take off and leave the kittens... I don't think I would ever forgive myself for that selfishness.

The female is a litter of cats from an irresponsible owner at the bottom of our road. They used to have a dog which got taken off them, they then got 2 cats which they didn't get spayed and they produced this female... and now she has kittens. I'm really annoyed with the owner at the bottom of the street, their kids are always filthy and the eldest about 3/4 I think is always outside in the garden in nothing but a nappy..

The youngest I saw nearly fall out of the upstairs window for which I told them about and the tool of a father told me to mind my own business but with more extreme words... but that is another story.

I'm going to get more tins of tuna in water (brine I thought might make the cat more thirsty due to all the salt.) I will go in there tonight and if the mother is out (she seems to be going out just at night at the moment for a bit around 5 - 6) I will try and get some more pictures and check to see if they are all okay.

Do you still recommend removing any kitten that has passed on? I put a thermometer in there last night and it was around 12 - 15 in the garage do you think that this is ok? I had already put a basket in the garage with old bedding in which was well covered but she doesn't use it.... I have no idea why, I guess where she has had them is surrounded on all sides and also what you see in the picture (what the kittens are on) is an old thermal duvet that I was going to throw out

I have the local CPL number, called them and they are only open 9 - 5 Monday to Friday so I'm going to ring them tomorrow. The misses mother might take one if we can get them domesticated, the misses is also thinking about keeping one too... The mother we will definitely look at getting done as soon as the kittens are well enough to fight for themselves and I will always feed her as its not her fault that her original (sort of) owners are so irresponsible!

Is there anything else I should be doing?

Sorry she is feral actually not stray.

She has been with the Kittens all day. I cooked some cheap chicken legs and going to give her one of them a day (off the bone) and buscuits twice a day. I can see the Kittens and they are moving so I'm a little more happy as she is with them.

She is not moving from the kittens when I come in which is fantastic :)

Stelly

nah without bones, its the same for dogs and cats, I have a rotty already and know not to give them chicken bones :)

Hey guys,

Just went to see her today before going to work... she looks good all 4 kittens are kicking around...

I'm wondering if I should pen the kittens in? What do you guys suggest the next stage should be? I'm thinking about domesticating them and giving them to a good home but I'm not sure how to go around it? Should I get them off the mother when they are on solids? I'm not sure what to do in this situation?

Here is a pic of the mother I was able to manage to get:

The black blobs at the top of the cats head is a couple of the kittens, the other two you cannot see :)

Thanks,

Stelly

Hey Guys,

Just got in contact with the CPL (some weird hold music of cats meowing and purring) anyway....

They old me to start interacting after 2 - 3 weeks and at that time think about putting out wet kitten food. They gave some really good advice and some contact numbers of people to contact if I need a trap to get the mother done.

I'm still thinking about making a pen to keep them safe and secure and ensure that they do not wonder off... what do you think?

They also recommended maybe only getting Kitten milk if the mother stops feeding them..

Talk about being dumped in the middle of things!

Stelly

Hey,

I'm up for doing it. If the mother leaves them I will call CPL back as I don't have the time to constantly feed them.

The only thing that I'm worried about is at 3 - 4 weeks them leaving the garage and either getting lost or getting run over by me or by leaving the garden... that is why I was thinking about creating a pen sometime next week to ensure that the kittens are safe?

AFK, I would like to contact you to see if I can get some advice about stuff :)

Cheers,

Stelly

Hey guys,

Okay well the mother went out last night just around the garden for a bit of leg stretching I think... I bought some Kitten food.... bloody expensive stuff for how much you get and have given it to her this morning, let see if she eats it up...

The kittens are also being very vocal now too and so I thought that I would capture a video of them being noisy... the mother was looking at me as if to say "I didn't sign up for this!"

(excuse the gayness in my voice)

I also had a talk with the vets to see what they recommended about spaying and jabs and see if they would give us a discount to get them all done... she seemed reluctant, I might give the CPL another call about this then.

anyway I hope you enjoy the vid :)

Stelly

I'm happy to buy some kitten food and post it to you, either for mum now, or kitties when they get old enough. Seriously I mean it :)

Lets see how it goes mate... see how long this 2kg bag lasts me.... and I really appreciate the offer :)

Stelly

Hey Stelly well done on looking after mum and kittens :-) I did email you last night but sorry it was so late as I had some issues with the 2 kitties I am fostering at the moment.

Yep, just got it, I have emailed you back.

Thanks for the help :)

Stelly

stelly,

depending on what you end up doing.

we are in the market for a kitten, we live in Bolton so not that far and would be willing to adopt one if you do end up raising them.

you can email me if you are interested.

Definitely going to raise them mate. There is, by the looks of things, 2 males and 2 females... all look healthy (fingers crossed)

I have nothing witty to add at this moment in time.

 Never thought I would see the day :)

At this rate they'll up for sale in the MM.

I think it should be allowed the shoot laser beams from their eyes :D

Mother looked good today she ate all the kitten food last night and then went out to stretch her legs, she seems to be staying in our garden at the moment...

We saw them feeding last night as well that is how I know that all 4 seem healthy... I cant wait to see them properly as at the moment I'm only seeing bits of them... one had his head under the mothers chin this morning, he looks more grey then black.

I would setup a webcam but cannot afford an IP cam :(
