Help: Kittens!

D'awww

They are cute, but I have more than enough moggies. The last cat I got was the result of double-incest (male cat banged his own mother, then knocked up one of the resulting kittens for good measure, resulting in my moglet). She turned out to be somewhat retarded. She's a bit of a handful!
 
That cat is probably pregnant again already :p

Seriously though, kittens don't stay cute for long, once they start wondering you'll notice the smell of pee everywhere then the fun begins!

Not my doing though lol

Mother is going out more and more... I'm trying to find out where from but its so damn hard at the moment... I'm getting more and more of a handle of the Kittens though with her being out... even with her being there she isnt too bothered at the moment.

I have more pics that I need to sort through and will post up on here :)

Hey Guys,

Thought that I would do a little update... Kittens are starting to move around a lot more... and are also responding to me coming in... they are not shy as they were a week or so ago as I'm starting to old them now... I'm now wondering when they will start to eat solids as I will need to cater for that...

Mother is still getting out I have blocked a few holes I'm at the point now where I'm thinking about getting an IP cam to watch where she is getting out from but its too much of an expense, especially when you think of cat litter and food expenses... not that I'm saying that I regret doing this its more that, well, financially its a little strain.

Can anyone tell me what the mark is above the last pics eye? I'm a little confused over it..

I also have another vid that I will put up later... stuff to do :)

They're great at this age - so fluffy and clumsy :)

Stelly, it would be well worth finding out where the mother is getting out. If you can't properly cat proof the garage then you should take both mother and kittens into the house. Aside from the risk of the mother getting pregnant again, the kittens will very soon be in a position to follow her out. Far from ideal...

As for solid food - 8 weeks is the standard cut off. You could start leaving some kitten food out for them from 6 or 7 weeks, if you like, to see if any of them will have a curious nibble. but don't try to transition them properly to solid food until 8 weeks at the very earliest.

hmmm... see what you mean I will take a good look this weekend as I have some spare time and will try my best to get it sorted.

I feel your pain brother! Garages are meant for accumulating household junk - not being all clean and tidy... Mine hasn't been sorted in years, and long may it continue!


Edit - no idea about the camera though, sorry. But there's no guarantee that you'll be able to spot exactly where she's getting out, or find her only escape route (particularly if your garage is as cluttered-up as mine). I hate to say it, but a clearout might be your best bet.

Do you not have a secure room in your house instead Stelly? As I have already said you need to get them in your actual house to get them used to being in the house and it will be far cheaper and less hassle than clearing the garage out and getting cameras!!

And you have said the mother does use the litter tray so no worries there. And after a couple of weeks you can let the mum cat out to explore the rest of the house etc.

I will be clearing it out but if she is still getting out I will need to know where she is getting out from.

She really wouldn't take to the house... I just have that feeling... and I still cannot get close enough to her to catch her she throws a wobbler and pegs it... I don't want to scare her off the kittens at the moment, when they start eating this may be different.

Trust me she will be fine as long as you leave her to it and when you drop the food in the room completely ignore her to begin with.

As for catching her, she is taking food that you put out so as I said get a carrier (which you will need to take the kittens to the vets for vaccs etc anyway) put the food in the carrier and hide out of the way then close the door and you have her. Or ask the CPL for one of their traps where it will close automatically when she goes for the food and you don't have to wait around.

There's a program out there intended for CCTV called 'Vitamin D' if you can find a good IP Camera or work out a way to get a wired camera to a PC then you can run this and it'll pick it up and record it. I can elaborate if you wish.

The kittens are looking so big!
I'm not completely sure but I don't think the grey one will stay grey. He looks like he could have something called fever coat. I've never seen it in the flesh but I think the kittens are good candidates for it. Its caused by the mum being malnourished during gestation and birth.
