Help me cook a good curry?

okay thanks, im going to go for chicken instead of prawns tho i think will see!

Do as suggested above, make the 4 portion one, and freeze 2 portions worth.

I got told a recipe today. Simple but apparently beautiful. Just sounds a little fatty to me.

Chicken
Plum Tomatoes
Chilli powder
Block of Butter
Salt

Drain the Butter, And then eat.

Carzy stop trolling eh?

It's not making you look anything but petty.

Heaven forbid! Sometimes I get bored while watching something on my computer, so I have a bit of fun in GD! It doesn't bother me what you think, the only people I actually bother about are on my MSN and thus know what I'm actually like.

i have a noob question! :p
So i went thru the list of ingredients for the famous Jonny's Curry and noticed it's for 4 portions.

Thing is we will be 2 to eat, so here goes my noob question, i always wondered can i just divide by two all the ingredients and that's enough for 2 or some ingredients need more or less for taste or something?
Yes :)

It's involving to make it though, so it's no extra effort to make double and freeze it. Then next time most of the hard work is already done :)

Get yourself a lot of spices. You'll look at the ingredients for a curry and think 'wow, thats way too much to get' but trust me, once you have stocked up on all the spices then you are set and can make pretty much any curry you want. Some spices you will need..

Cumin, turmeric, coriander seeds, ginger, chilli powder, garam masalla.

You'll need a few fresh bits when making the curry like coriander, onion, garlic, chillis.

If I'm making Indian curry then I'll make a curry gravy 1st then you can use this as your base sauce and add various other ingredients, depending on the curry. Just do a google search for Indian curry gravy.

If you are doing thai (which I love!) then I like to make the different pastes in advance and then put them in the fridge or freeze them. Favourites are thai green, thai red and massaman.

Best thing to do is a quick google search for them, pick one you fancy and go from there. Its trial and error but you'll soon be making curries exactly how you want them!

Like I said, stock up on all the spices. Took me a little while but I've now got 20 different spice containers that all come in handy for various curries etc. I love spicy food!

OR, Look out for something called SHAN masalas, They make cooking EASY, All ya have to do is cook the chicken/Meat and add that spice in, Woala good curry right there.

Here's one I call the 'Japanese Flag', named after the state your hoop will be in the day after eating it.

4 Large hard boiled eggs, chopped
2 large onions,
2 large green peppers
1 small tin anchovies
25 of the hottest chillies you can find
1 tin of supermarket own brand curry sauce.

Chop everything up and throw in a pan. Boil for 45 mins. Serve on a bed of rice.

 Holy crap that sounds horrible.

Quick question for you curry experts.

I'm going to have a go at this Madras curry http://www.spicetheworld.com/recipe.aspx?Value=Lamb Madras

It says to use dry red chillies but i don't have any, could i substitute them for cayenne powder or double the chilly powder it says to use? I assume the red chillies are to add the heat to the curry so I'm hoping cayenne pepper will do the same thing.

Also 25kg of mutton wtf?, I'm going to use 1kg of chicken instead lol.

have you got dried chilli flakes?

otherwise just add chilli powder.

yeah 25kg isn't right..

Any got a good recipe for a ceylon curry? never heard of this before, went to an Indian the other week and it was really nice.

 I think the red chillies must be an integral part of this recipe as Madras is supposed to be red and mine is a sort of pink/orange :o. Might add some tomato puree.

Turned out a bit rubbish, might have put too much ginger in i think. Also turned out a pinky orange colour and looked more like Rogan Josh.

a little report on my first try :p
So i tried to make a tikka masala(sort of) curry.
The taste was really nice but i think my paprika was way too hot me and the GF were sweating like made lol!

I'm going to give it another go maybe with another recipe or the same one to see if i can get something not so hot :)

ps: thanks for the various website they seem nice, im hunting for a new recipe to try atm :)
