Help Me Counterstrike Beginner

find A server, and stick to it.

A decent clan server wont take too much notice of you, but when they see your name a few times they will start tlaking/helping you out. Then you mention your new and they will give you tips untill your eyes bleed from reading them all. :)

Above quotes are probably the best. Follow people, stand back a bit and just help mow people down with the odd shot :D

I'm getting absolutely reamed.
Haven't even got a clue how to setup the guns at the start of the game.
I've got no instructions as it was a steam download.

Press "B" when you start each round and you can buy your equipment.

When was beta 1 released, its more then a few years now.

If your new then backup someone else up. Dont step on their shadow or block them just cover their six :) You should pick up a few kills and certainly a few tips along the way

Ive played for 7+ years now and I started in beta 4, so I recon about 8 years maybe 9?? Anyone confirm?

8 years Jack. HL been out since Q4 1998 and it would have took a while to make the mod. I'm guna say probably 1999. Been playing since 2001 and my self which is long enough hah.

css, if you find the right server and community is not only a game that is great fun but can also be a good challenge every now and then.

Im part of the UKCS css community, a very friendly place with some of the best servers ive played on in a long time (i stick to them, gunmod and zombiemod servers)

I dont understand how people like 1.6, its old, looks crap and if you arnt the 'fatal1ty' of the server then you arnt going to have fun getting owned every 5 seconds into the round. (not that i do but ive seen many with that response)

IMO, css > cs

1999 or 1998, I started playing september 1999 so atleast from then, like I said above that was beta 4, but there was a fast turn around of betas in them days

edit if HL was 1998 Q4 it was probalby early 1999 like u said

could i play it on my ti4200? it isn't supported in HL2 ya c
B@Th*nG
I played HL2 and CSS on my Ti4200 128MB at 1024x768 I think it was, it looked alright too, all be it with effects fairly toned down.

I haven't played in a year or so, really fancy a game now thinking back tbh. Deagle is another fun gun, once you've got used to the basic pistol and AK/M4.

Here's some tips i posted in another similar thread:

My tips from years ago of playing CS..

Use these weapons in order of cost: usp/deagle/mp5/ak/m4/awp. Honestly, dont bother with any other weapons. There is a reason all the best players use these. The AK is the best gun in the game once you've mastered it.

One that no one else has said yet; buy armour. Vest alone wont protect you much from your average public player aiming at the head (but will against grenades) but its still well worth it. Buying armour and a deagle will undoubtably get your further in a round than buying an M4 and no armour. Check your armour level when buying. If it's over 50% you dont really need to buy it again. Unless you need to add the helmet.

As for sensitivity -- lower it. This isnt Quake.. 9 times out of 10 your enemy will be far enough away to let you make time to aim. A low sensitivity will make it so much easier. There's no point talking numbers at you, as everyone's setups are different -- so do this: Set your sensitivity so that one 'swipe' across your mousemate turns you 90 degrees (*acceleration should be off). Adjust it mildly until you're comfortable. Bear in mind it might take you at least a week or so of regular playing to get used to using you whole arm to walk around. This is the idea. Dont worry if you fail miserably for the first few days -- it'll happen. Most players cant get used to using the whole arm, rather than just the wrist. Use your arm to move around and your wrist to adjust your aim once it's close to a player. Get used to 'swiping' across your mat. If its one swipe to 90 degrees, it's two to turn 180. It's not as slow as it sounds.. the aiming is far more beneficial than the minute chance you'll be able to kill someone that comes up behind you (although its still very possible, especially with CSS).

Two shot bursts are your friends, not 3. On most guns (iirc) only the first bullet is accurate. Aim for the neck and the second one will headshot them; the third would just miss. The AK is the king of two-shot bursts -- iirc it's first bullet is 100% accurate.

If you're close -- spray. Learn to control it. Start aiming at the chest then pull down to the feet. Even further with the AK. The M4 is the king of spray. I'm trying to think of distances, but say in Aztec if you're a CT at the top of the stairs (out of the water) and the T's rush the doors, it would be a 50/50 decision whether to spray or not. Any closer than that and spraying is your best bet -- especially in Source. That might seem like a long way off but it's do-able with practice. The M4's spray is more controllable when using it wihtout a silencer. Use it with the silencer for long distance bursts; this might just be psychological though ;)

What goes without saying; dont move when shooting. Get used to stopping yourself with a quick tap in the opposite direction you're running, then firing almost simultaneously. The faster the better. If you're using the MP5 you can run around like a loony, it doesnt make any difference.

Um, have fun.. ignore 99% of what people say in chat :D

EDIT: (Wow i cant believe i just wrote all that for a game i gave up ~4 years ago!)

I'd also add to that to not get mad when you die. Just flick through the spectator view to whatever player is top (or has the best kill-death ratio) and watch how they play. Then copy. :)

Also, if you're struggling to buy everything you need before you're left in the spawn point with your whole team already slaughtered (:p), have a look at setting up buy-binds. Makes things very useful. Just bind up your numberpad to buy guns.

Or, just press F2 (rebuy previous)

Scam - urm just a note about your spraying, yes i agree you need to learn to control it, but your technique of just pulling down is incorrect! each gun recoils in a different way for example the m4 goes - up > left > right > left

my best advice is go onto a map with no1 on it to start with run up to a wall and press the spray (T) button and emit your spray on a wall then give your self enough distance and learn to strafe shoot (strafe right - tap left shoot, strafe left - tap right shoot, repeat this process getting faster BUT make sure you are in control and your shots don't start getting erratic for the sake of speed)

and i would recommend against the MP5 if you are T's get a galil, and ct get a Famas (clarion) as these guns allow you to fire through walls, doors, crates etc allowing for spam! if you can't afford these guns just stick with a deagle and Full armour (deagle again allows you to shoot through objects).

This is how i learned and i have played at a very high standard (used to play for a french team called Error.FR who competed at the World Cyber Games and also played for a top5 team in Iceland)

if you have any more questions feel free to come into my teams irc chan #limitation on quakenet uk

A tip for beginners - keep your crosshair at head/neck height.

It's amazing the amount of people who walk around corners pointing their guns at peoples feet and get really miffed when they die.

Very true, i forgot about that. Doesnt the AK go pretty far up and to the right? (It's been a while!). If you really want to learn where the spray goes, pointing at a wall and learning from the bullet marks doesnt actually work. At least in 1.6 anyway. The bullets dont actually always go where the bullet-holes do. There was a map i once got that was basically a big glass wall -- you can shoot at that from different distances and see where the bullets really go. I'm sure the site must be about somewhere still.

Yep. If you're using a lower sensitivity (like i said^), it seems easier to do this too. As you're moving with your arm and it's easier to go left and right without affecting your up and down.

the ak tends to recoil in a figure 4 manner first up-then left, then down then right! in all honesty the aren't likely to be using the ak for constant bursts as you would the m4, the famas is probably one of the easiest to control as the spray is very close anyway!

my best bet is google "heaton M4 guide" and download that short movie! he also has a Ak guide

**note for those who don't know who Heaton is, he's regarded as one of the best sprayers in the world, and used to be the best player! He's also the most known iirc
