To be honest the Toledo is a better shout than the S3 and is probably newer for the money into the bargain.

Latest ones are 2004 IIRC, think you'd struggle to get an S3 at that age/price. They are really good cars. The similar alternative would be a Bora

0-62 doesnt matter cause how many times do you actually do that. mostly you do 30-40 or 30-50 or 40-70 so the more torque you have the quicker you'll get to that speed

if you put 7k down for a depo you could get an auris 180. 2.2L 300lbs or torque but only problem is, is that the cheapest ive seen is 11K but you can always get a Octavia VRS

im a petrol fan TBH prefer Turbo petrols or Supechargers but if you dont have a lot of money or dont want to buy boy racer car like a Type R, Golf GTi, Seat FR or Corolla T sport Compressor and you are wanting something more easy on the eye and good to drive then a derv is the way

well bmw has got about 230lbs or torque and the auris has 295lbs to be exact and they can be remapped at Toyota for a small fee for an extra 40bhp and 40lbs of torque

What about the fact the BMW has 50bhp more?

just think about it. your sat on the motorway doing say 50mph in 5th your torque is mainly higher up whereas the Auris is lower down and will pull away much quicker

And significantly higher gearing thereby reducing that torque at the wheels to approximately 12lb/ft.

You use 4th and then the torque will be available. Simple really.

Are we assuming some cheeky fellow has poured concrete into my gearbox rendernig me unable to simply select an appropriate gear?

50-70 takes 4.5 seconds, how long does it take the Auris?

bhp doesnt really matter when your cruising along its mainly torque. 50bhp wont make any difference if they both where in 5th gear. it would make a difference if the 530 dropped down a gear
