Hi all,

I have installed Windows 7 on a number of PCs but im having problems with some HP Models (DC5700).

I have booted of the CD and just after I click the Install Now button I get a pop up advising that a CD/DVD device driver is missing.

Can anyone advise which device this pop up is referring to and which driver I am supposed to use?

I presumed it was something to do with the Sata Mass storage drivers so I downloaded the Intel Chipset drivers but pointed it at them but it didn't help.

I also read about changing the AHCI setting in the bios but this option doesn't appear to be available.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I had the same message awhile ago and it is infact the DVD drive being too old I assume, I looked everywhere to try and resolve this issue - I even updated the firmware on the said DVD drive, it made no difference, I would say the only way you can get around this is to install using an external DVD drive or replacing the original drive in said machine.

Seriously if anyone does find another way around this problem then buying a new DVD rom let us know but I dont think there is anything else you can do.

EDIT - just to add I replaced my (not so old) DVD drive and it installed without a problem

Latest Bios

New Sata DVD Drive

New Download of ISO on new CD Tried

Different PC but same model tried. Same Problem

Im certain is relates to the whole ahci stuff but cannot get working despite trying al sorts in the bios and using the latest chipset drivers.

Since I installed Win 7 on my Acer Laptop it won't recognize the internal DVD, it won't even accept an external USB drive :(

I'd install from a usb stick...but looking around, that might mean you lose the dvd drive anyway. New dvd drive isn't that much is it?

Does it show up in Device Manager with an exclamation mark next to it?

If so, google

"upper filters fix" and use the Microsoft tool to fix it

As Bledd says. BIOS UPDATE.

Its not only HP that does this... NEC are swines for it too!

Motherboard BIOS update that is... for a non-HP BIOS

did you try a different make/model dvd drive? its definately that..

i had that issue trying to install from a USB DVD drive, i ended up managing to get a SATA DVD plugged in and it worked straight away.

reburn the dvd at a different speed ....should cure it ....lowest is best ...worked for me .....and dont use dvd-r.

This happened with my volume license copy and I had to re-download the iso and burn again at a slow speed - although I'm not sure this is any use to anyone with a retail or otherwise copy.

This worked for me on exactly the same hardware the previous disc was having trouble with.

I've burnt the DVD a few tiems, different speeds etc, tried copying the files to a USB flash disk and that says "Invalid MS-DOS function" when I do it, I'm about to give up - do you think i'll have this problem if I order the "free windows 7 upgrade DVD" for my Dell laptop which is pretty new?

I had this problem too using the upgrade family pack. Luckily the pc has 2 DVD drives in it and I just took the disk out and put it in the other drive and it installed no problem. Just my luck that I used the 'no driver' drive first!

If you can boot from USB, i'd make a USB 8GB stick bootable, copy Win7 over and boot from that. Google installing Windows 7 from USB, there are a few guides out there. It's much faster too.

I tried to copy the installation files from the ISO image of Windows 7 over to my USB drive, but it says "Invalid MS-DOS function". Any ideas what that is please?
