Help me OC my i5 3570k on Maximus IV Gene-z/Gen3

It is the 3570k I've got and a 3570k Im replacing it with.

Just checked the mobo specs and there is a "Q Led" that checks

CPU, DRAM, VGA card, and booting devices during the booting sequence

If one or more is at fault the corresponding LED will light. My mobo has the CPU LED lit up so hopefully that is what it is

Cool, no worries. Just giving reminder info just in case you did grab the 3570 non-k un/intentionally (as per your other last post, probably mistyped or forgot to type the k behind the 3570). But cool the Q LED is working and indicating the CPU is likely at fault. Could have used that in the old days of my i7 920 setup, couldn't tell what died in that one too and no codes to see either, and was too expensive to diagnose, so junked that entire setup.

Whats the reason you prefer the 2600k over the 3570k new boy?

Hyperthreading mostly, 4c4t is starting to loose out to 4c8t CPUs more and more gaming wise but also;
Clocks higher
easier to keep cool without resorting to delid (And potentially another dead chip lol)

Downsides are a tiny bit slower per clock (~2% or so from memory), though clock speed will almost certainly more than make up for it. A little bit higher power consumption, no pcie3 (not important) and I think your USB 3.0 ports may or may not work at USB 3.0 speeds anymore depending on how they are wired up on the motherboard.

I ran it for around a year, had some fun with it then got a z97 / 4790k setup which I'm running today. Delid went much better this time, didnt go razor blade method this time xD

Been reading up on deliding. Might give it a go when the replacement arrives. Obviously I will practice on the dead CPU 1st. What method did you use new boy?

Used razor blade on the 3570k and killed it

Bought a delid-die-mate off OCUK for the 4790k and worked perfectly as you would expect.

Following some bad advice, I used the type of razor blade that goes onto a shaver. Its flexable, and the corners cut into the PCB in more than one area.

If I were to use a blade again (which I would not, one bitten twice shy) I would used a regular Stanley blade.

Well I've installed the replacement CPU and its finally booting. Booting and running @ 4.4ghz @ 1.25v which I think is pretty high for that. I think my cooler is pretty poor tbh. Whats a better one to get for the i5 3570k. Thanks
