Quit the cigs! Right my fellow forumites I've had my last ever cigarette this morning and have decided to set up this thread as a deterrent mainly because if I do fail I know none of you will let me hear the end of it. Therefore I shall be updating this thread with my progress each day!

Why? It's disgusting, it's filthy, it makes you filthy, it makes you stink, it's bloody expensive and it's incredibly bad for you health, and the health of those around you.

No brainer to me.

What he said^

Think how much cash you will save and be able to put towards much more rewarding things.

second hand smoke kills more than you actually smoking it, so just think, you're helping to kill people. maybe people you care about so just that reason should be enough for you to try hard to quit.

Unless you've ever smoked or had a proper addiction you wouldn't understand so I explain the addiction is so damn difficult to overcome especially if you've been smoking 10+ years. It takes a lot of will power to fight the urge.

I had a serious addiction to morphine when I was 15. Don't tell me its greater then that.

I'm talking months of the scariest nightmares and hallucinations you could ever imagine. Waking bathed in sweat, screaming in pain and not because of the accident but because of what I'd dreamt and seen.

Quit smoking, it's doing you and everyone around you a favour.

Here's another incentive for you, after 3-4 weeks, you'll notice a difference when you taste things. Food will be your saviour.

Everytime you get tempted or even think about having a cigarette you have to put £1 into a jar. Do this over the next month or 2, see how much you save.

I didn't mean to imply that you didn't understand I'm sorry In fact you probably have an even greater understanding than I!

A scientific study found that nicotine was actually more addictive than crack, cigarette companies design them to be addictive. I don't disagree that it's smelly, disgusting, incredibly stupid and harmful to others, that doesn't stop it from being incredibly addictive though.

Just a tip to the op - if you avoid drinking for a while quitting is easy. Cigarettes are designed to work well with alcohol so drinking increases the urge to smoke significantly..

I think if you quit totally it is easy to start again. I am very weak minded and admit to having little self control. My plan is to just cut down. I have not been smoking at work for a few months, my next step is no smoking during the week at all. Just when out and when drunk because I am even weaker when intoxicated.

Downside is I go out more, but that is a good thing I suppose.
