Help me to...

That's because it's not a debilitating (you can still do your normal job after hitting the briar pipe) and it's not as expensive. It is one of the most addictive substances know to man though.

But even a massive long term smoker can go through a few days discomfort if nicotine isn't available without going completely off his trolley, try that with a crack addict and they'll spaz out with a much greater need for it in that time.

Why do people start? Whats the thought process? Are they all just weak minded?

'Ooh that fag smoke smells nice, I'd love to stick that into my mouth'

In terms of appeal it must be on a par with being addicted to eating dog dirt. I appreciate its very addictive but seriously, how dim do you need to be to think 'Yea, that sounds good, I'll give that a go'

Well first few times are a bit ****, but after that iirc the number of receptors for it increases in your brain, and as well as it overcoming the negative effects of with drawl, it actually feels very nice, and the pleasant feeling is more than enough reason to continue.

sure if dog dirt made you feel good.

fortunately I'm one of those hateful barstools, who can go through times of smoking every day to months on end cold turkey, without a problem :p

like those people who eat junk food and don't get fat :D

Don't worry, that's just a standard Tefal response, would have thought you'd ignore them by now :p

My boss used to use the 'Blaster' thing that someone said earlier...it's a white 'stick' thing, and uses Nicotine capsules...obviously your supposed to reduce the amount of it you use every day...so then you get to a point you stop.

It's more of the 'habit' of giving up you have to over come....after years of doing it, your just used to going and having a cigarette...You've almost developed a body clock to it...It's just breaking out of that habit really.

Just quit!

The biggest problem people who smoke [and want to quit] have is that they believe it is hard to do... It's not, you just stop, afaik quitting smoking will not kill you or in any way harm you, so just stick at it you big tobacco conglomerate whipped weakling.

Sure, with crack the highs are higher and so the lows are lower, but the physical and psychological craving is the same.

no the physical might be the same (may be even lower for one) but psychological they are much different, if the low for crack is lower, then you're going to be psychological much more desperate to get it, rather than the more resigned approach most smokers have.

if the physical and psychological al where the same they they would act the same when denied (before true physical withdrawal kicks in).

Look at alcohol, one of the worst for physical addiction (ie withdrawal symptoms include death), yet not as bad for psychological addiction as things like crack/heroin.

sure if dog dirt made you feel good.

But my point is you wouldnt know if dog dirt tastes good until you try it. And to try it you'd first have to take a good look at it, give it a sniff, and STILL think 'Yea, lets try that'.

Which is what you need to do with smoking. As a non smoker, it smells repulsive and looks disgusting. Yet some non smokers still think 'Hmmm, lets try anyway'.

Are they braindead?

no they look at all the millions of people who are in the "enjoying" it phase, and think hmmm Sounds good, lets try it.

it;s about the feeling not the taste, certain illegal brownies, can be cooked badly and taste like crap, but you're not eating them for the taste now are you?

The thing is I want to get over my addiction to nicotine and the help options like the patches, gum & blasters aren't really quitting the addiction.

yeah I've never really understood them..."I know, I'll stop smoking BUT, I'm still going to put the nicotine into me!".

I can see why it appeals to people, as obviously they're nicotine levels are up there somewhere ^^^^...then going down to suddenly never topping it up again isn't exactly good for them psychologically I guess.

When you get a craving, you just have to go and do something else...Whatever really, go for a little walk, go to the toilet, go have a glass of water, or make a Tea (Just don't end up addicted to caffeine either! :p)

I can't remember the last time I saw or spoke to somebody enjoying being a smoker. They all complain about it and wish they could give up

Aspirational stuff.

Problem is for some people...they're first fag, didn't physically give them any pain....it was just a standard drag, no 'bad' feeling in they're throat..So they carried on, and on, and on....to the point they actually like the feeling of it.

Then you get some people...where the first drag, actually hurts there throat in some form....they think..."ok, try again", and get the same feeling...Then decide to not bother because of that reason.
