Hey guys,

I've just started having a problem with my computer. Whenever i play a game, such as Overwatch and Squad, my computer will restart with no warning after about 20 minutes. I have Ran a stress test on my GPU (The computer did not restart) and I've checked the temps of my CPU and GPU whilst running the games. (The temps were fine)

I have not experienced this problem before and it only seems to have occurred about a week after installing Win 10.

I've checked my Error logs on event viewer with shows Kernel power 41. Which means the computer lost power for whatever reason.

Specs -

Intel i7 4790k (With H100i cooler)
GTX 780
Corsair Vengeance 8gig ram
Corsair CX 750W PSU
1tb HDD
120gig SSD + 60gig SSD for OS

As this problems only just started occurring, i'm starting to think it could be Windows 10. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys

Try a CPU stress test like real bench.

I would check all the power cables are plugged in well, maybe your mouse cable is moving around knocking another cable or summat. Also maybe try another power socket? rule out any old multi adapters etc.

If its not a loose cable maybe try taking the pc back to a min setup, 1 stick of ram and onboard GPU, i know your game will run terribly but it will help rule out some components as you can try each stick of ram individually.

I've not had your exact problem so i dunno what else to suggest really. I'g guessing you checked your bios and drivers are up to date, aslo did you do a fresh install of windows 10? Upgrading can cause all sorts of problems.

Reseating everything is a good idea.

Memory, motherboard, PSU are the most flaky components.

My bet is reseating solves the issue or it could be your PSU.

Please bear in mind I am rank amateur! Post an update and what's Overwatch like? Is it as good as COD?

A friend was getting restarts with Overwatch. After removing the GPU and CPU OC, he removed the RAM XMP (to run at stock 1600MHz), and that fixed it.

Later we found statements from Blizzard about Overwatch not liking overclocked memory. So try that too among other things.

Have you installed any new components into your machine recently? I had similar things happen before my current set up and it turned out to be stress fractures in the mainboard, when playing games the temp would rise and and restart the machine. Only discovered what the problem was by flexing the board when all else failed.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I've just ran a RAM test and i ran my CPU on OCCT for over an hour and everything seems fine. I've made sure my mouse cable is not pulling on the power lead, there was quite a tangle back there, but i wiggled the power lead just to see if that would have done it and it doesn't seem so.

The newest component in my computer is a 1tb hard drive, so that didn't really invole screwing/plugging into the motherboard.

I'm going to test Overwatch and Squad now to see if the problem is still happening. Then i'll reseat my components.

Overwatch is awesome! Really fun game, just waiting for the competitive mode to come out so i can jump on with my group of mates! Definitely worth a purchase

Ok, so I've reinstalled Windows 10 with a USB stick.

I've stressed my CPU and GPU.

I've re-seated my GPU and RAM. I haven't yet reseated my CPU as it has a h100i cooler on it and the temps were fine + no restart stressing the CPU.

I've changed the SATA sockets my HDD's are plugged into

I've made sure all power connections are plugged in securely.

I've flashed my BIOS and updated it to the latest firmware.

I'm still encountering the restarting issue. And not on particularly demanding games. I loaded up 'Hands of Fate' and after about 10 mins it restarted. I loaded up the game again and it restarted again not long after. I can browse, watch videos, listen to music etc etc with no problems at all.

This problem is getting really frustrating! Any ideas? :)

Thanks guys

It sounds exactly like the same issue I once had, it was only once I exhausted all other options and flexed my board that I discovered the fractures.

To me it sounds like you've a fracture near your GPU, when it heats up under load the crack expands and poof, your board shorts and a restart happens. Mine worked great doing everything but gaming too, a few minutes in and poof, restart, a few minutes again (usually less) and poof restart again.

I have 2 Kingston SSD's, 1 60gig and a 120gig. I've just stressed tested my computer for just over an hour, running OCCT AND Furmark at the same time to simulate running a game. The temps even reached higher than when i'm playing a game, and there was no restart!?!?

This is so confusing :/

Try to run Unigine Valley or Heaven for 30 mins in a window checking your CPU/GPU temps and clocks. Make sure nothing is jumping around clocks wise.

I'd be still looking at your PSU as the issue. Restarts without any kind of blue screen are commonly a power issue.

I assume you are running stock CPU clocks?

Ok ill try that!

Yeah im running the default clock speeds. I also reset my bios to optimized defaults and updated the bios

Those temps are fine. Can you give us a screenshot showing your 12V, 3.3V and 5V readings? Although HW monitor can give bad readings, if your voltages are way down, that can cause restarts.

Best place to get a good reading of those are in the BIOS. Each value should be within 10%+/- on the 3.3v, 5v, 12v.

Does this help? I was told by a mate to increase my CPU voltage to 1.25 which seemed to make my system more stable. I was playing battlefield with a friend for a while thinking it was solved, but it just happened again. This problem is really starting to P**s me off!
